Lord Keiller's Grave

Post by RichardAM »

Not much, just something I did quickly last night. An exercise in landscaping. It turned out all right, but I still think it seems kind of shelved? Regardless, i'm planning on using the statue again.

Very nice. This is fantastic for a first excercise in landscaping. A generic rule I try to stick by most of the time is to not have many places at all where the step up is not more than 1 plate high. I also try to not jsut use one plate by itself on top another, adding more paltes of different sizes helps keep it from looking like steps. I also try ot to use green slopes much either, but that's just my preference.
I am most certainly not an expert by any means, that's just some stuff I have figured out to help it look more natural.

One thing I have done that helps alot, is to go out, find a nice area of real ground that has an interesting shape and try making it out of LEGO.

Well, whatever I said, this creation is a super example of a nice little bit of castley landscaping. The statue is very cool, I like the "macaroni" curves for the base alot! We could sure use something like this in a display sometime!!!

A really nice little MOC! I love the concept and feel and your landscape is an excellent start on the true art... For comparison see one of my (embarrassing) early efforts:

I think the landscaping is fine, actually. I really like that statue, and those sheep are wonderfully fluffy. Pretty cool, all-up.

This image is very poignant, and the statue has a lot of feeling put into it. The landscaping is great, with the trees a particularly good touch.

Very nice, I really like the statue and am trying to put one together myself. Did you pick and pull that statue together from various minifigs or do they sell solid color minifigs on bricklink?

Thanks Chris, i'm basically just taking mental notes of landscaping everytime I see someone's MOC, this was my first try myself before I go bigger. And the macaroni curves, I bought them from Bricklink months ago- this is their first use!

And look at your recent landscaping! It turned out blockier than what I would've liked, but i just need more practice. Thanks for embarrassing yourself for my sake Nat.

I had to tell everyone what they were! But I wanted to include the sigfig and thought sheep were appropriate for the landscape. It's a place away from battles and conflict etc.
The landscaping is great, with the trees a particularly good touch.
They were going to be brick built but I couldn't find my brown one-stud columns. I know a lot of people use them, but definitely some sort of new tree system is required from the TLG.

There's probably figs like this for sale on eBay, but he was entirely brick-built from home. The helmet and armour are standard CC pieces. The head is a cyborg from the Insectoids turned around, and I think the torso is from the Rock Raiders or something. Far from perfect, but it's surprisingly convincing close-up.

lire, Imdol, Baggins- thanks for your comments! :)

Nice statue. Interesting landscaping. It is supposed to be in a garden, cemetary, or just out there in the forest?
