The only problem with building is early is that a bunch of bricks will be taken up, and sitting there for almost a year. However, if it is really great, then go ahead and keep it. It will either fit in a normal catagory, or in the misc catagory. :)

Hey Steve,

I hate to be the bearer of sad tidings, but, as per usual, the large number of entries will delay the announcement of winners. Perhaps next year we shouldn't give a date for the winners to be announced. I'm looking forward to announcing the winners myself, because then I'll be able to come out of my self-imposed silence on the tons of great MOCs we've seen this year.

Phantom,

Please don't delay a MOC for the next 10 months in the hopes that it might fit a category. That would very much go against the spirit of the CCC, which is to encourage building, not to get someone to tie up their collection for a year. Also, as others have noted, we change the categories every year to encourage creativity, so what might have been a great entry for this year might not fit next year's contest at all. Also remember there are other contests throughout the year, some sponsored by the admins and others by forum members. Some of these contests are regular, such as the battles contest and the micro contest that have been held each year for a few years. Others come up sporadically, like when we held a chess contest to celebrate the new chess sets, or last year when LEGO donated a complete line of new sets to sponsor a contest.

It's my fault, I'm sorry. I've been busy lately, and grading is really really hard this year.

Darn you Classic-Castlers...

Just you wait, I'll find a way to get you back... just when you least expect it, you'll be all like "Woah! I wasn't expecting that!". Yeah.

Here is something you can try. Build the thing. Take pictures. Put them on your computur, but do not post them on the internet.

Again, I hate to bear sad tidings, but the very large number of high quality entries means that judging will be delayed.

Thats for sure. Perhaps in later years you should set a date for judging but not make it public, just say it will be done by (and give a far future date, like End of February). That way we don't get this "Why is it not judged yet!?" type posts.
It gets bigger and bigger every year; have you ADMINS considered adding more judges, and perhaps only for specific categories?

Having a group of admins grade each category gives a more balanced result. We could cut down the number of categories and prizes to reduce grading time, but I doubt anyone would want that ;)

Grading does vary from year to year depending on the number of categories and entries. For those who have been here for several years, you know that grading could take as little as two weeks or as much as two months. Showing a later date as an estimate would be better in the future. However I am sure we will still have many fans questioning when grading will be complete with or without a date.

Honestly, you guys do a bang up job with this contest every year. Having to wait a few weeks is hardly a bad thing. Heck, it's only the third week of January! Given the amazing MOCs that this contest produces, I would rather see the judges take the time they need to ensure that everything works as smoothly as it has in previous years.

Later.

Erring on the side of estimating too late, would seem preferable. It'd be better received to announce results early, than late.

I thought the estimated date was too optomistic, when I first read it.

:D

The best answer, in all seriousness, without sarcasm of any kind and in the most gentle way is:

The grades will be done when they're done.

Our process is not a steady one - it will go fast for a while, and then it'll slow down, and then it'll speed up again. There is really absolutely no way for us to accurately predict when they'll be done. The best we can say is that the winners will be announced when we have them.
