The Home Guard

With Lord Jerek and his troop of crownies on the march to the plains of Hephram, the Skellies have mounted an attack on the Red Tower. The tower, which guards a small mountain pass into the realm, is manned by old soldiers and peasants under the command Jakob of Refshire. What should be an easy task for the Skellies turns out to be a nightmare . . .

Waste Not, Want Not: The Troll Massacre

Post by SirNadroj »

Here's my entry:

"Waste Not, Want Not"
(The Troll Massacre)

Yes, more of a massacre than a battle, but a battle none the less. This poor wanderer was minding him own buisness. He walked in the mushroom-covered, under-brush infested forest when he was suddenly robbed at sword point by a duo of trolls. One troll took all his money. Though the man tried to put up a fight, he was no match. The second troll took his sword and sliced him in two. Ouch. He was having a bad day, no doubt.

Now, why did I entitle this "Waste Not, Want Not"? Well, what do the trolls plan on doing with the body? Why, eat it, of course! (I was inspired by Sweeney Todd, duh! ;-) ) This was a fun build for me, and allowed me to produce, in my opinon, the finest landscaping (plants, trees, fungi) I've ever made! Enjoy:

I also invite you to browse through many more pictures that will give you a more detailed perspective of the scene (when moderated)

Castle entry - Battle of Stamford Bridge

Post by docvenom »

This creation is based on a true event in history. The Battle of Stamford Bridge

Image

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=3097927

Shortly before the historic Battle of Hastings, there was another battle: The Battle of Stamford Bridge. A group of Vikings had invaded England. King Harold raced with his Saxon army to attack the Vikings. The Vikings had already sacked the countryside and were victorious. They thought the Saxons were several days away - so they relaxed.
Harold pushed his men in a long march and caught the Vikings unprepared - the Vikings had left their armor on the ships and were not in battle formation.

One bridge separated Harold from the Vikings. A lone Viking stood in the middle of the bridge and held off the Saxon Army for a while - giving the Vikings some time to prepare. The legend goes that the Viking killed 40 soldiers before a Saxon soldier rowed out in a barrel / tub under the bridge and killed him with a spear.

This scene is from that moment in the battle. The Viking warrior is holding off waves of Saxons (you can see some of the dead around him). And just as the story goes, you can also see the Saxon soldier who rowed out with a spear to dispatch the Viking on the bridge.

Thanks for putting together this contest. I have never done a castle contest like this - it was a great excuse to pull out the Legos.
