Re: Size of Armies
The shadow knights archer unit looks great. Holy Moly thats a lot of black bows and quivers!The_Hun wrote:Here's an update of my (partially WIP) armies, as of today.
I also really enjoy the tan archer company you have made for the crownies. I wonder how brown capes would look on those guys? Is that leg and hip color combo reddish brown/ lt bley a stock set or did you put the legs and hips together?
I see you have made a lot of your troops from viking torsos. I like the color schemes as they match up with the stock figures really well but add much needed variety.
A personal preference of mine; I prefer the double strap torso you used for your tan archers to the torso you chose for the shadow archers. I just think the straps make it look like the quiver has straps. I think the torso on your shadow knight archers would look better on the sword unit you have to the left and vice versa. Although I understand not wanting to use the same torso on the archers from your different factions.
Thanks for sharing it is looking great!
Re: Size of Armies
Thank you, DaleDVM!
Well, as I only buy new, those 25 black bows and quivers took about a year to collect...
Yes, the viking torsos are my all-time favourite. They're very versatile and look amazingly good in a lot of colour combinations.
I've only got one reddish brown cape, but I'll sure try that out on the archers. Their legs, btw, are the stock piece that comes with all the troll figs nowadays. I've taken to swapping arms and hands in the torsos lately, but I can't get myself to take apart the hips & legs assemblies, as there's a great risk of damaging them.
Your remark about the strap torso being more suitable for the archers is the same thought I myself had. In the case of the Crown archers, that's exactly why I chose that particular torso. You've made a very good point regarding the Shadow archers - I might change those as soon as I can accumulate another 25 two-strap torsos.
When those changes are made, I'll make sure to post them asap.

And I've decided army building is boring, so I probably won't do any more of my other factions...

I have completed a "minifig census" on my collection. I have 2971 figs in total. I had thought I had more. They are split into many different factions, with the undead (skeletons, ghosts, zombies and mummies) being the biggest at 288. I will try to get to pictures and descriptions later in the year. But for now I am re-energized to do some more customizing and complete some of these factions

Re: Size of Armies
My crownies are at about 15, counting the king, prince and princess. Not all are official, some are viking torsos with blue arms and some headgear. My Dragon masters are about 7. The dwarves/gnomes/halflings are about 8 strong. Probably eaither my crownies or skellies.

Those are some nice-looking troops, Griffon! I like how the crown looks on the golden knight.
