32 x 32 Challenge: Crown Road Keep

Post by Quickblade22 »

Ok, here is my contribution to the Challenge that Trevor set forth. First let me say that I am honored to have my name attached to this challenge even though Trevor was the real man behind this. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Since then, I have embraced this challenge and am proud that I have something to show. Here it is: Crown Road Keep.

I was inspired first by looking at the layout for Fort Legoredo, that I had a modified version of in my room. I decided to pick the faction last, which is usually the first thing I do (thanks Blue). I went with the Crown Faction because I love the color scheme and at the moment, I can't remember why I didn't choose a different faction. :tasty: Sorry for the poor quality of some of the pictures. Great challenge Trevor, I enjoyed it.

Very nice.
My favorite bit is the round tower looking thing in the back corner.
Wonderful job.

Great stuff Eric!
I too dig that round turret sticking out of the corner.
And then the interior just completes it all, good job on that!
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

I can really see the Legoredo inspiration in this. The interior in nice, it looks like you've got all the right types of rooms in there and the proper lazy guards hanging around in them. There are also some interesting details and depths going on, on the gatehouse. I do have a minor nitpick though, and it is really minor and it's something I don't ever really notice but did here because it's something I'm taking great care to avoid on my current MOC. The two bit of greenery on the front side look like they're just tacked on. It seems to me that vines or ivy growing up a castle wall should have their roots in the ground and look less like a tapestry on the wall.

Great job and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself doing it!
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

You've done a stellar job on the mottling, QB. I didn't even think about it until I started typing, so that just goes to show how natural it looks. :) The timber hall in the back is a nice offset to the grey of the walls. And I'm a big fan of that tower jutting out from the back corner. From the look of it, you've got some nice action going on in the courtyard, but it's only visible from the one frontal view, and not much. Another pic, perhaps? Build on!
May the blessing of the Lord be upon you. <><

Definitely great- the gatehouse caught my eye the first time I saw it. I'd already finished mine, so it was interesting seeing what I could have done instead.

I never use the panel pieces but I think they've been implemented well, and the height of the walls all around mean it's quite the fortress. That there's numerous interiors just sweetens everything. :)
