A Vignette A Week 01

Discussion of personal LEGO Castle creations

A Vignette A Week 01

Postby Voran_the_Scholar » Tue Oct 13, 2009 12:52 pm

Hello, everyone. This is the first of my "Vignette A Week" Vignettes. Vignette A Week is a personal challenge to myself to build at least one vignette a week. The reasons why:

1. I lack the time/management to build much.
I lack the brick to build big.

2. I have not paid much attention to the little details in my creations in the past. This is a skill I want to develop.

3. The lack of building going on is driving me crazy.

So I have set forth the challenge with these basic guidelines:

1.The build must be at least 8x8, no more than 10x10 at the base.

2.The build must be no more than 12 bricks tall.

3.There can be no more than 3-4 minifigs used in the build.

4.I am allowed to bend rules two and three if it seems appropriate.

I am going to take up this challenge until the end of the current semester, and I'll see if it's practical to continue it then. And hopefully I'll learn a thing or two along the way.

Comments and critiques are welcome.

Nice! Is the Troll meant to be an Assassin, or are Trolls and Crownies working together now?

Way to go, dude, something like this is probably just what I'd need to activate my MOCing as well. Keep it up! ;)

Great idea, and the figs & furniture look great. The walls might have looked more like a tent and less like a room, however - maybe if you could figure out a way to slant them, or maybe just put some inverted slopes around the top?

Oh well: it's a fine idea for a vig, and best of luck on the rest of the series!

This sounds like a great idea; Lego vignettes are usually pretty interesting because the limitations on size force the builder to focus on quality over quantity.
I'd be very interested in knowing more about what is going on in this one (unless it's already explained and I just completely missed it); it looks like the troll guy in the green ninja cowl is interupting the knight's battle plans with an urgent message or something (perhaps the trolls are in cooperation with the knights, hence the shield on the wall??)

Thanks for the comments and encouragement, everyone!

As to any sort of backstory, there really isn't one. I'll just say that the three in the tent are chiefs of three different factions (those are left to your imagination), and that it is a troll gal in the green ninja cowl. (And if you're from the midwest, you could get away with calling that a rhyme! :) )

Thanks again, everyone!

 Now you've made sure I'll never read mid-western poetry.. ;) (not that I had planned to before, but still)

I like how your figs are posed. The one looks to me like he just slammed his fist down on the table. The other holding his helmet, and the ninja looking down at the map... they all contribute well to the feel. It doesn't take much for me to imagine tension in the room. Hope that's what you were going for!

I agree the tent walls look more like stone walls, I'd suggest a bright color if you have it, since it's easier to get brightly colored cloth than stone, it might help with the effect.
