I think a tower I've been building fits best with the idea behind the fantasy castle category because much of the way in which the tower is constructed is based on concepts that would only be needed in a fantasy setting, and it also defies the laws of true physics. However, it was stated minimum castle sizes should be 32x32. As this is only a tower outpost it is 21x26 at it's widest point, though 40 studs high. If I do want to enter this into the contest, then, should it be entered under Fantasy Castle or simply Misc? I wasn't sure which was more important, the feel of the category, or the technical rules.

Thank you!
Sheen

Woot! Made it back just in time! Now I have to find all my LEGO amidst the horrid mess in my room...

Big thanks to everyone who donated the prizes and helped/helps with the CCC's!

This would be better in miscellaneous unless you expand it into a larger castle.

Josh (Or any other admin)Is it allowed to make entries to the different categories and then combine most of them into a entry for the misc category?

Although we have made exceptions in the past (ie: Castle entry used in a Battles Category), the admins will not allow combined entries this year. You certainly can combine all of them to make a larger moc, but you can not enter it. We are looking for new creations in the miscellaneous category. Please also keep in mind that this is the most difficult category to win due to the volume of entries submitted.

This looks great! I have 2 questions however: if I were to build a boat for the Medieval Mariner category, could I use non-LEGO cloth and/or string? Just a (maybe not so) minor difficulty in my design.

Also, would a custom(modified) fig be permitted on the boat?

Thanks,

Of course I'm not an admin, but your question has already been asked and answered, no more than one page back ;)

As for the custom fig, read the rules page again, it's all on there.

Oops. Maybe I should have searched the thread before asking.

Can Harry Potter sets be used as the basis for the Alternate Universe entry?

No. The sets must be in the LEGO Castle theme, and not HP sets which may be a castle.

Are we allowed fantasy elements in categories other than Fantasy Castle? At it's simplest level, are we allowed to use troll figs or not?

SlyOwl had trolls in his misc category but I was wondering if they were a-okay across the board and in the other categories too?

Hmm, I made the assumption that "fantasy" (ie, things like magic, dragons, trolls, etc) as long as it is castle related was ok for most categories except for the ones already discussed like the religeous life, the technological advance, and the brick castle. But, that's a really good question I'd be curious to know the answer to as well. I was planning to add some fantasy-themed elements into my training a squire category creation.

Okay, here's my question: The rules state that "You may edit your images digitally, but only to clean up the images for presentation." I know our community is in the habit of pretending that trans-clear supports don't exist, allowing a builder to "suspend" things in mid air without actually editing the photos. My question is: if we do not have a sufficient number of trans-clear pieces to support what we have in mind, can we edit alternative supports out of the photos?

Thanks in advance.

Then can we also pretend I have a lot of sand red bricks so I can edit my brick castle to look better?

Edit: Didn't mean to sound a little harsh, I just think the whole point of this contest is that you build with what you have: if you don't have thousands of tan 1x2 bricks, you don't build a 128x196 tan castle.

I am very excited for this contest! It is always fun to see what interesting categories you guys come up with, and then what creation we guys make.

I have a question: In the Fantasy Castle category, does it have to be a full castle with four (or more) sides, or can it be three sides built into the side of a mountain or rockface. The exposed part would still fit within the size requirement of 32x32. Thanks in advance!
