All the parts have to come from one set, but you don't have to use all the pieces from the set.

It does not have a be a specific real building. It just has to be in an "Eastern" style.

There can certainly be pieces left over, but the MOC should be on roughly the same scale as the original set. If you took a large set like the MMV and then built an 8x8 vig, that would not be fitting the spirit of this category. Heck, pick a set that is large enough and with a varied enough parts selection, just about any small MOC could be seen as an alternate model. Big sets should lead to big MOCs, or small sets to small MOCs.

Yes, it could be a building of your own design in the style of that culture.

Elbadar
No. You can only use pieces from one copy of a castle set.

Flickr allows some small video uploads (<30 seconds). Would a video (especially a short one) be allowed as one image to show off motion, or should I edit a small mosaic image showing the succession of the motion, or what?

Thanks ahead of time admins! I feel goofy asking a n00b-ish question.
Video of mocs will not be allowed. You can add motion arrows to an image to show things like a falling ax, turning gear, opening trapdoor, etc.

In highest hopes that it hasn't been asked yet: does the Religious Life have to include a full building or can it be a facade?
...and that's how Equestria was made!

What custom pieces were you thinking of? Things like figs and accessories are addressed in the rules.
Are they? It's entirely possible that I'm blind, but I didn't see anything about it. I saw rules on image sizes, LDraw entries, image hosting, and previously posted creations, but nothing on custom pieces. Would this have been posted somewhere else?

In answer to your question, I'm wondering about a custom fabric sail for a ship.

Certainly the Inquisition was an aspect of the Church.
Does this mean we can build historical events? Like Maarten Luther who... (how do I said that in English??) put his... (what's the english word?) thoughts on the churchdoor?

Sure, that event was certainly part of religious life.

Btw: Martin Luther, 95 theses

The admins have a handy rule within the rules page: "We reserve the right to modify the rules and prizes of this contest at any time."

Custom fabric sails for a ship are permitted.

While it may be difficult to fit an entire building within the size limitations, your moc should be more than a facade.

This would qualify. However I would recommend against making a moc of this event because it has been covered in the past by other builders. It is the Helms Deep of medieval religious mocs.

Does the technological advance necessarily need to be a device? What if it is a practice or a theory? Like say, Mendel's crossbreeding?

Steve, who told himself not to ask any questions and just go with it...

Sounds good to me, though perhaps a harder build challenge for you.

Hmm, how to depict wrinkled versus smooth peas?...

Well Mendel is a bit too late (1800s, I think) for the contest timelines. But I do have a similarly agriculturally based advance that I want to do. I just need to put on some finishing touches.

I looked around and I couldn't find anything that said anything about my question so i have to ask. Can I use an older MOC that I already posted in my gallery? for example I have a great MOC I made a while ago, that would work for the fantasy section but I dunno if it's allowed?

Thanks for your time and effort!
