SlyOwl had trolls in his misc category but I was wondering if they were a-okay across the board and in the other categories too?

Fantasy castle mocs certainly could apply to the Alternate Universe, Outlaw, and Mariner categories. I do not see these types of mocs fitting the Eastern Castle or Religious Life categories. Those two categories should focus on people living in medieval times, and not monsters/creatures.

Voran wrote:Okay, here's my question: The rules state that "You may edit your images digitally, but only to clean up the images for presentation." I know our community is in the habit of pretending that trans-clear supports don't exist, allowing a builder to "suspend" things in mid air without actually editing the photos. My question is: if we do not have a sufficient number of trans-clear pieces to support what we have in mind, can we edit alternative supports out of the photos?

You should not edit out support bricks.

I have a question: In the Fantasy Castle category, does it have to be a full castle with four (or more) sides, or can it be three sides built into the side of a mountain or rockface. The exposed part would still fit within the size requirement of 32x32. Thanks in advance!

Sides can be built into a mountain. We are looking for Castles and not towers in this category. If you have a work in progress, you can pm an admin with an image to see if it works in that category.

What, in de opinion of the jury, are the characteristics of a castle?
As in, "it does have to have an X to be a castle".

At the very minimum a castle has outer walls, a gate and some sort of interior structure.

For the knight in training category, do all three portions need to fit on within the size requirements together, or just individually?
ie, three sections on one 48x48 baseplate vs three sections each on their own 48x48 baseplates
...and that's how Equestria was made!

Each scene must meet the requirements individually.

I think I shall enter this. I guess I'll get MOCing!

EDIT: One question, can we use any material for the Custom Minifigure Category or just LEGO?

Any material is allowed for the Custom Figure. The base figure needs to be a Lego minifig (not some other brand of figure), but the materials that you use for customizing can be anything. For example, you can paint, cut, glue, melt, mold and attach pieces of metal, clay, plastic cloth or whatever, however you want. But it has to start with a Lego brand minifig.

Is this something that has to be grounded in history and reality or can it be something more fantastical? Would dragon balloons or steampunk-esque stuff be alright or not? Basically, are crazy inventors and their creations allowed or not?

No. It should be a real technological breakthrough such as the overshot water wheel, printing press, etc.

What about Leonardo da Vinci's various inventions? For example, his tank design, which never became reality at the time, but was shown posthumously to have been a technologically sound design (with a little tweaking made for his "graphical shorthand" e.g. missing out mundane cogs in the drawings).
Or should the design have actually been created and functioned at the time?

How is a design that was never built, something that CHANGED medieval times? It changed the 19th and 20th centuries, not medieval times.

You mean I can't build a car and say "Well somebody in the middle ages must have said, 'I wish this carriage could be horseless.'" Now I have to scrap something I was working on....

A Leonardo design would be technically okay, but as noted, it's not really something that changed the times if it was never realized during the middle ages.

Well there is also the fact that Leonardo lived after the middle ages isn't there?

I was expecting that; I had thought that even though not realised, the designs may have had impacts on the way people lived e.g. greater desire (and thus research (namely hilarious attempts to fly) etc.) for powered flight after his various flying machine inventions. But I've gone down a different alley for this current MOC, so I'll think of something that may sit more comfortably with the judges (and myself  ) until that time comes around again on Sunday evening, when the previous MOC is dismantled, and I've got a blank 48x48 in front of me, with no ideas to build...

Technically speaking, Da Vinci was during the tag-end of the middle-ages, although his specific activities belonged more to the Renaissance

The problem is that the middle ages aren't specifically defined. A couple of years ago when we had a 'medieval history' category, we set the dates as from the fall of Rome (476) to the Great Fire of London (1666).
