I tried to make a wave effect combined with tiled water.
Here is the result :

Wow, great compilation of mocs/how-to-article! This was really helpful for inspiration and trying to find out how they made it. (I'm still stumped about SlyOwl's :D ) Thanks!

yeah Phipsons is really good but it has almost no depth. However the technique is rather old but new in this context.
