Hey All!

The monthly challenges appear to be going well. I've been impressed by the level of participation. It warms my heart. ;) Thank you.

I went my LUG meeting yesterday and one of the members (Wayne, if he is reading this) brought nearly all of the Lego animals and had them marshaled on baseplates. I enjoyed pouring over them and it gave me an idea for this month's challenge.

Animal Kingdom.

Do anything animal related. Anything. Build a farm, build a knight with animalistic heraldry, build a brick-built beastie ravaging the countryside, etc. As the title of one of my favorite books said...."If at all possible, involve a cow". ;)

Let out your inner animal. Remember, there are no rules in these challenges. If you think it fits...it does. Let's hear you roar!

Hmm, sounds like fun. I'll have to get my camera working and put my thinking cap on for this one. :)

You wanted a cow, here they be.

As some may have seen in my CCCVII entry here are some minotaurs without brick built heads.

While the crownies tried to protect their kingdom from the necromancer and his evil armies, little did they know there was a bigger danger coming from the other side of the world. Coming from their great cow-ships the minotaurs burst through the crownies sea defenses and hid within the forest, picking off crownie parties that passed by.

Please check out my photostream and let me know what you think of my minotaurs.

A woodsman takes a stroll through the forest. I guess this is borderline "castle" since all the animals are North American and the scene could be found just about anywhere in time, but I guess in my mind he's a medieval woodsman who has a cabin somewhere in the forest. The animals are so accustomed to seeing him they don't run away.

To give a better view of all the animals, I included a shot of all of them by themselves

I really enjoyed this challenge as I love making brick-built critters and monsters. I hope you enjoy it!

Since the contest was about animals (and perfect timing too) I had recently watched the movie "How to Train your Dragon" and was overcome with inspiration to make a life-sized dragon. Hopefully this "brick-built beastie" counts as an animal in the kingdom.

Another better view of Hiccup and Toothless (characters from the movie)

Here is my take:

The Great Steed Race!

I rounded up all the animals I could get my grubby hands on, and put them all to the test, to see which is the fastest.

Some closeups:
The Monkey Rider, my personal favorite.
Some people just couldn't ride their steed.
This guy didn't choose to well
Neither did this guy.
He wasn't the brightest stud on the brick either
Looks like he forgot to unload
Ummmmm...
Charge!!!

Landscaping is lacking, I know, but it looks as if it is a green screen, as if they are in a movie. I'd really be interesting to know what sort of movie would involve this many different types of animals.

The whole folder when public:
