34 pieces? For an impulse? That's a LOT. The last 5 castle impulse sets (not counting minifigs) according to Bricklink had:

Good Wizard - 11 pieces
The Knight - 17 pieces
Troll Warrior - 15 pieces
Court Jester - 18 pieces
Wizard - 14 pieces

But hey, it's your contest.

Don't you think it's more of a contest if there is a prize being offered?
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

so what is the prize?
He who thinks you should look at the box that says "Quaraga" if you want to find out his username (about as useful to you as his real name). he only wants you to look so he can laugh about you looking there because he's a total smart...

Looks like fun little contest. I may have to get my rear in gear and enter. Also secret prizes always intrigue me. ;)

ok here's my entry when it's been modded.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=442456
15 pieces unless bits of paper count as pieces in which case add 2, if pieces of paperclip count plus another and if sculpey counts +1(hopefully scotch tape doesn't count or i'm over the limit)
(yeah i know I missed a few spots on the torso)

How does the minifigure and its accessories (cape, armour, weapons, etc.) count toward the total piece count?

if the headgear and cape are on the minifig it doesn't count as a part, the rest of his armour weapons will count as parts
