Hey all,

In past years we've had some side events to complement the CCC, like the admins contest and team challenges. This year we'll have cross-category awards. Custom titles will be awarded for the following MOC descriptions:

Most humorous
Best use of the color purple
Innovative building technique
Best use of a classic faction across multiple entries
Best use of a "useless" part
Most educational

These could be chosen from any category. Someone could win a custom title and also win a category prize. Titles will be held until the next CCC (or until Tony gets bored and starts playing around with peoples' titles again :D ).

Very interesting. Maybe this will help me get off my rear and start building.

Sounds interesting... what does "classic faction" mean?

I am going to say any faction that started before 1993 as the Dragon Masters were the downfall of the original "classic-castle" factions.

Cool! I shall have to bear this in mind - if I ever get around to building anything

Judging has begun, so I'll let this thread go for now.

Hey all,

I apologize for the delay in these. The envelope please ... (drumroll) ...

Most humorous - Some really fun ideas, like TMC's battle of the bands, Crises' Knight-o-matic, and DarkTemplar's Humpty-Dumpty. The one that made me literally laugh out loud, though, was Nanuck95's Ted Thug.

Nanuck gets the title 'Court jester'

Best use of the color purple - This one goes to Bluesecrets for her Violette Étoile

Blue gets the title Vermillion Knight Templar

Innovative building technique - This one was really tough. One of my favorite things about this contest is how it brings out creative ideas in our participants. There were so many new techniques here to choose from, like Dave's thatched roofs, Jediknight219's round tower technique, cobblestones by Legohaulic and Lomero, Legolord's undergrowth, Slyowl's use of dragon wings, and so many more. In the end, though, I'm going with a tie between Busboy489 and DarkTemplar for their use of forced perspective. Of course incorporating some microscale in a MOC to imply distance has been done before, but in addition they stepped their MOCs down from wider close to the camera to narrower further away. For instance, the Humpty-Dumpty one goes from 14-wide to 12-wide to 10-wide as you move further from the camera.

They each get the title 'Leonardo'

Best use of a classic faction across multiple entries - Sadly, this one goes to no one. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see anyone who consistently used a classic faction over multiple entries. Derfel does have Black Falcons prominently featured in two of his entries, but he's already Master Builder. I was tempted just to make Pijani 'Bag of Hot Air' on principle.

Best use of a "useless" part - The one that jumped out immediately came from Jalkow's lone shepherd. I suppose we may have expected to use dinosaur parts in a castle setting to make dragons, but as a sleeping bag?!? Such a cool idea. The boat hull as base is also very clever.

Jalkow gets the title Wandering tinker

Most educational - Again, so many good entries. Accurate representations of real historic structures are great, like Legacek's Orlik and Peter Yule's Borgund Church. LokosuperfluoLEGOman's Da Vinci's flying machine is great and should be paired in a scene with Diidy's Leonardo. Marco Polo also turned to historic figures with Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and Eleanor of Aquitaine. The one that I went with, though, was Tastymuffins' keeping out the cold, for the insight into how walls were constructed and some of the issues involved. Btw, his other MOCs are also well rooted in historical designs.

Tastymuffins earns the title 'Geoffrey of Monmouth'

Thanks Bruce! I'm glad you got a kick out of it. I wanted to build something different/funny and my wife helped me come up with the idea for this one, so I can't take all the credit. Thanks again! :)

well...
I could come back as "bag of hot air", but due to the size and other features of Ched Nasad, I could become the "REALLY big black&red bag of Drowish air" ;)

it is time to take some of those Underdark titles ;)
