Re: Ungoliant About to Destroy Laurelin, tree of Golden Light

For any who might not be familiar with this story from the Silmarillion, before the Sun and the Moon were created, the world was lit by the light from two trees, Laurelin giving golden light, and Telperion giving silver light. The devil, Melkor, desiring chaos and darkness, instructed the vile creature Ungoliant, an enormous spider, to destroy the two trees, which she did. After the destruction, the goddess Yavanna, who had grown the two trees, wept and sang a song to bring forth what little life might remain. Each tree produced a single fruit with the last of its remaining light. The gods and goddesses then set each of the fruit sailing in the sky over the world to become the sun and the moon.

No castles, no swords, no heroes -- just pure mythology.

Hope you enjoy the model.

Tolkien is the best. So, loving Forestmen and LOTR we shall enter our fantasy forest creatures. A bunch of stuff I have could pass for "wizard so and so" or "fantasy creature _" so check out the rest of the Flickr. But for now, these two are almost strait out of the book :D)

Old Man willow: The tree in the old forest who swallows the hobbits after casting them into a deep sleep. Fortunately Tom Bombadil comes to their rescue! (you have to have read the books... sadly not in the movie :(

Image

Forest Ent and Raddagast the Brown! The ent or tree man has been done before, so many props to Aaron D. and ArzLan. They sparked me into making my own so here it is!

Also I'm new to Classic Castle and Flickr so hope to get involved and get to know some of ya!

Nice use of the rock monster for Old Man Willow -- perfect for making it more than just a tree.

My thoughts exactly. It has the appearance of a gnared old tree and only on second or third glance would its true nature be apparant.

I really like the ent as well, the face and head sells it for me. The bent nose and beard are very nice.

Great!
I wanted to build an ENT for a long time. And here is the opportunity.

This is only a preview because I missed time and parts to finish (legs ...of course, some joints of fingers and worked again arms and back,... for example)

Others pics on Mocpages : http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/249473

please, tell me what you think of it.

Here is my little MOC for this month.

The Battle of Helms Deep. This is the point after the gate to the Hornbugh has been shattered and Aragorn stands upon the battlements to wait for the new day.

Helms Deep One

Helms Deep Two

Enjoy,

Haradrim
I know I've already posted an "Old Man Willow" and a "Treebeard" but the Haradrim are way too cool to pass up.
I tried to conceptualize a more practical War elephant based off of the Oliphaunts without the 4 story size. So not HUGE but still extra large upgraded war elephants :)

Just a quick clarification. This is not a contest. Contests have rules, prizes, judging and winners. Building challenges are just suggestions to get people building.

OK, it's "monthly challenge" then, not "contest". I guess I was a bit hasty on the subject.

Is this "challenge  " still open? After watching a scene from the third lotr movie again 9and again, and again!) I came up with a good design for the Rohirm. Green scale mail shirts, Green cloaks, Bullet helms, axes and swords and these shields. I have yet to find or make drapes for the horses

I'd say it's still open, one of the whole 'Points' of the Challenge's are that basically there *ARE* no rules per say if I read them correctly. The Challenge's are design to provide a broad idea/starting point that a person can then 'run with' in whichever direction takes their fancy. Because it's a challenge and not a contest there is no judge required, no deadlines etc, just a broad starting point to spark creations.

So, Build on! :)
Build? I merely Acquire atm.
