
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=459103For any who might not be familiar with this story from the Silmarillion, before the Sun and the Moon were created, the world was lit by the light from two trees, Laurelin giving golden light, and Telperion giving silver light. The devil, Melkor, desiring chaos and darkness, instructed the vile creature Ungoliant, an enormous spider, to destroy the two trees, which she did. After the destruction, the goddess Yavanna, who had grown the two trees, wept and sang a song to bring forth what little life might remain. Each tree produced a single fruit with the last of its remaining light. The gods and goddesses then set each of the fruit sailing in the sky over the world to become the sun and the moon.
No castles, no swords, no heroes -- just pure mythology.
