[WIP] Archenval, medieval town
Hello all,
I wish you to present my lastest WIP creation, Archenval.
Archenval is a medieval town built in the early 12th century, at the time of the Templars. These are the first two modules of twelves, presented at the Fanabriques french convention. The gatehouse is inspired by the Tower of Riquewihr in Alsace, France. The Templar Commandery, or rather the chapel is an inspiration to that of Coulommiers, near Paris, France.
You can see all photos at my Flickr Gallery :

And the WIP here
Enjoy

Wow, I did enjoy that. The "Easter eggs" in the Commandery crypts were fun and I cannot wait to see more modules.
I have to say that the use of the partisans in the tall windows is brilliant. I don't recall seeing that before and it really gives a good representation of tracery windows.

Re: [WIP] Archenval, medieval town
This is good stuff. I assume the turret top is meant to be "unfinished" in the tradition of French castles? (Or at least, that's what I was once told their tradition was. Something about avoiding taxes because the building wasn't complete.) Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work!
Re: [WIP] Archenval, medieval town
For me, the turret will be finished. I choose to leave the turret unfinished for the exhibitionAK_Brickster wrote:I assume the turret top is meant to be "unfinished" in the tradition of French castles? But it was a very good remark, AK_Brickster
Thanks you for your messages

Some of the styles in this really echo some of my early castle MOCs. Some great new techniques though and tons of details.

Re: [WIP] Archenval, medieval town
Thank you. I started thinking about the third module (always in 48x48 studs), and after visiting the French Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, I decided to build the guarded house. It will be a sort of small castle or fortified building where the gentry can live, sleep and feast. Construction will begin in the coming weeks.

Re: [WIP] Archenval, medieval town
Hi everybody,
After a long time, I'm back with the extension in WIP.
Here is the South gatehouse with fortified wall et octogonal tower. Minor changes are planned, but you have now an idea about it. I'll present other things later.
More pics here
Enjoy

Archenval's Chronicles - Lord Baeron
Oye Oye good people,
Let me tell you the story of Lord of Baeron from Archenval, a knight who repeatedly saved our great city from the yoke of his assailants. At service of our beloved sovereign, he led many wars with our soldiers. It is said that his scar come from a fierce battle against a man as big as a mountain of incredible strength, he will then struck with his trusty blade.
This great victory earned him take the head of the army that now protects our homes, our peasants, our widows and orphans ...
The peacetime is installed in our countries, but for how long?
Lord Baeron goes on and the training of our brave soldiers ...

A really nice build, many great and beautiful details. I like the south gate and its tower very much.
