LCC-Lenfald local challenge, Build me a ship!

Post by Elderon »

Well since the challenge was to build a ship, I thought: The heck with it, I'll build three! First of the backtstory:

Velaryon and his friends embark on yet another journey across the seas. This time they set sail to the lands of Loreos, to travel to the home of Deiros. They stepped aboard the Bulls Horn who patrols the western shore from Isil Oro, around Lennes to the Strath Armen. There they will step ashore and cross the border near Ainsford.

So here they are, the Bulls Horn, The Green Leaf and the Faolchu Dubh:

The Bulls Horn followed by the Green Leaf and the Faolchu Dubh (black wolf) on patrol around Lennes, always on the lookout for outlaw pirates, that roam the shores of Lenfald.

I'm not hoping on many votes, since the Bulls Horn was built from official hull pieces I still think this creation is awesome :D I also didn't just want to build a boat, I had to include some sort of shore or cliffs, this is what came out. The smaller boats ar built with my previous technique of attaching two of the rowboat hulls together and putting a sail on top. The fun thing is, is that I have a few more rowboats laying around here and there, so I can build a small fleet of them methinks (the only problem would be the sails though...)

On to the Bulls Horn:

The Bulls Horn is a standard artillery ship with a crew of twelve, captained by Captain Gyldert HighOak II. It holds two ballista’s on the side and one trebuchet in front. It is often used as a ship during the siege of a city, to bombard the city with Dragons Tears. Dragons Tears is a substance which will burn on water and stick to any other material. Once it burns it burns for hours and can hardly be put out. The artillery ships hold a casket full of them. Also included in that casket is a flash bomb used as a warning shot.
On the background is a watch tower, one of many built along the western coast. The long horn will be blown whenever danger is upon them, to warn other towers in the neighborhood of an impending attack.

I like the ship, using both the viking hull-piece as the standard hull-piece (which I also have two of, I think I will be building a massive fleet someday... :sly: ) I'm not so sure about the sail, that was the main thing that kept annoying me. I kinda like this solution, but I'm still not sure... What do you guys think?
Anyways on to the weapons, the two ballistas are inspired by the ones from Ekluns in his CIC. I loved it so much I just had to incorporate them in this one. The trebuchet on front was a lot of work, but I think it looks cool. It actually works too, by the way, although it won't fire that far.
The tower was fun to build as well, since I added an interior with tiles on the floor, it adds a level of realism I think. Pictures of the interior will be added soon (I couldn't get round photoshopping them in time).

And last but not least the Faolchu Dubh and the Green Leaf:

The Faolchu Dubh is captained by sir Aylard DarkRaven, son of Gerrald WhiteRaven. When he joined the Black Sails he changed his name to DarkRaven. The Black Sails are a fleet of small interception skiffs who operate mainly during the night. On occasion they join a patrol though as seen in this creation. The Green Leaf is captained by sir Jeph of Ainesford, son of Gyldert of Ainesford, first mate of the Bulls Horn.

As you can see I used the design of my Loreesi trader boat from the Blade Peak creation (honorable mention in the fortify the forests challenge BOOYAH! 8) ) And just used either different color sails or different color of boats and plates altogether. I think they turned out great :)

Well that was it for now, more photo's coming soon (if work permits me) which will be added to my Flickr Photostream.. I hope I will get some votes though

greetings,

Elderon

Edit: Oh I totally forgot! My doose is in here too! Albeit with different antlers, I still think he turned out great!

These are really nice!

I like your solution for covering the gap between the rowboats, and it was a nice idea to build a shoreline for them to be sailing alongside of.
This Lenfel boat building contest is going to be tough to judge, that's for sure!

Well, I guess you have my vote.... I love this scene... the minotaur head is a great idea, and from now on a siege weapon should be required on every Lenfel war ship.

This is a great entry! Way better than Seamus' fishing trawler. And talk about taking it a step further - three ships! The High Lord will clearly accept such a generous offer to our province's fleet.

The landscaping and water in this work really well! I like that you did more than one ship too :D

Nice, now thats a fleet right there. That big ship is beutiful, the minotaur is a nice detail. Maybe a front sail on a ship of that size would fit in but thats minor details.
The background landscape is great also. :woo:
