Elven Mage Fig

I did a mega-draft of Helms Deep this weekend and managed to walk away with 4 torsos and legs from the Haldir fig. I'm trying to figure out how to convert them away from being "fleshies."

What do you think of this elven mage that I came up with?

(The helm is from the new Loki fig, if you don't know already)

I like it. Excellent torso choice.

Thanks! I think it's the perfect torso for that helmet, because they are both over-the-top in terms of ornateness. Seems very elvish to me :)

Looks pretty elven with that headpiece!

What's a mega draft?....

Draft:
An activity common at LEGO club meetings, in which LEGO fans each bring a copy of a LEGO set, sort out all of the LEGO elements, and take turns picking the parts they want. An easy way to get the parts you want in larger quantities without buying multiple copies of the set yourself. Read more on SEALUG.org

A "mega-draft" is basically the same as a "draft", just with a much more expensive set, usually around $100 bucks, and we typically limit the number of participants to around 6-8 to ensure that everyone gets their money's worth.

At SEALUG, we also typically use a true "snake" picking system, that is, the picks would go: 1-2-3-4-5-5-4-3-2-1-1-2-3...., such that picker #5 and #1 end up going twice in a row. This helps it be more fair to the guy who gets stuck picking last.

I hope that helps!

Pretty slick looking elven mage. I'm going to go a tad off topic now but how do you find the Loki helm with regards to fit? I'm a bit disappointed with the one I ended up with but maybe it's a dud. It seems to rid up after a while and eventually pop off a minifig head. Some seem to work better then others though.

I commented on flickr but I'll chime in here as well.

I think the Loki helmet works really well, both with that torso and as a elven style accessory. The gold/yellow is an issue as the contrast isn't great (mainly on the arms). I've a few PoP minifig parts that I've tried using but generally the gold looks a bit odd with yellow faces (on a side note, I wonder if this is why a number off the series 8 CMFs look a bit odd, with the abundance of gold/pearl gold). That said, the Gold 'crown' knight seems to work well, so it might be just a case of getting the contrasts right.

I'd maybe try a bigger cape (apologies for repeating myself), even with a collar (vampire style, does this come in any other colour?) as the short cape looks a bit informal for a elven mage. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Do you mean the actual lego club that run these drafts or a fan club?

Usually drafts are run by LUGs (LEGO User Groups) which are about halfway between official clubs and fan clubs (meaning while they are created by the community, they are normally supported by LEGO). At least, that's how I think of it. I'm sure someone who is actually part of a LUG could explain it better than I.

On topic, while I'm not completely fond of that torso (or that helmet either) I like the combination and it definitely fits the aesthetic you were going for.

I like the 'fig, as others have mentioned it has good choice in parts use and works real nicely. I think that in many cases that helm is a bit over the top for the situation but here it works really well

As for LUG's the main 'support' that most get is access to LUGBulk orders. Some LUG's will assist at store events in exchange for perks, but it not like it's a showering of 'gifts' upon the LUG members. Also different LUG's are run differently, some are groups that get together and talk or collaborate on builds while others have 'communal' collections of parts that are used for permanent or semi permanent displays. I suspect any more LUG discussion should be held elsewhere so as not to derail this thread any further.

A very nice figure. It's a good thing that not all of the LOTR torsos have flesh on them; otherwise conversion would be a lot more difficult.
It's also great to see another use for the Loki helmet, which is an obscure piece outside of the Super Heroes sets.
