Using 2x2 clip on flags as a shingled roof

Hey guys,

I recently bought over 100 of these hoping to use them to do a shingled roof of some sort.



When I actually started playing around with them, I found that working out some sort of attachement/overlap system wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be.

Short of somehow using long lengths of flex tube (though even that isn't as easy as it sounds), does anyone have an idea of how to pull this off? I want them to lie fairly flat as well, which gets tricky with the extra width at the clip end.

Going strictly by imagination (no bricks handy):

Take one of these (obviously), and place it on top of a 2x2 plate. Do this twice.

Place a 1x2 brick on the indent on top of one of the constructions above (I suppose any 2x?? could go here too, depending on the internal structure and support needed).

Place the other construction on top of the brick such that the modified plate is aligned with the brick edge. Add flags to the extensions. Voila.

Change the brick to two plates, or add a plate to the brick, to find the pitch you want for the roof.

If that gives you the result you're looking for: Lather, rinse, repeat until a roof is completed.

That'd probably do the trick. Another idea would be to build your roof out of plates, and then strategically place 1x1 tiles with clip on top:

and then clip on some sort of bar, like the 4 long bar (lightsaber blade), and clip the flags to the bar.

I had the same basic idea as footsteps. Stack some plates in a sort of tiered shape and add the plate w/handle to the top of each layer.

Both of those idea's are great! I would say the first one is what I was thinking. What a great roof technique that would be if it works!
