So far we've had 25 voters, and I would guess that only about 50% have voted for their own faction once, and only a couple have voted for their own faction twice. Several people have even put both votes for the same rival faction, so I think that people are honestly choosing their favorites and not showing too much prejudice.
The problem with not allowing people to vote for their own faction is that if there is one particular builder who is somewhat head-and-shoulders above the rest, then they shouldn't be disenfranchised of votes.
If results end up too skewed, then we can address it in the future, but as of now I am really happy with the integrity of the voters

(If I have time, maybe I'll run some sort of analysis on the results, or if someone else wants to, I can give them the spreadsheet after voting has gone final.)
EDIT:
OK, so I ran a quick analysis and came up with some stats based off a relatively small sample size of 25 voters. I'll share what I can without giving away the results so far

Loreos votes for itself more than 2x as often as the average
Garheim votes for itself more than the average by a very slim margin
Lenfald votes for itself less than average by a very slim margin
And the Outlaws vote for themselves more by a very slim margin.
So to summarize, maybe we just have to apply your proposed rule to Loreos.

(This was actually kind of fun and not that difficult to do, so maybe I'll present the full results at the end of the week)
