The Catch Of The Day

'How curious,' he thought. 'That looks as if it were a boat...'

And a boat it was... or at least part of a boat. Once it drifted nearer Andared noticed that is was just the bow of a dinghy lying low in the water, still flying Loreesi colours, and some loose wooden planks that could not belong to such a small boat.

'Why would a small boat like this be so high up in the north - and where is the ship it belongs to?' With these thoughts he fell unconscious.

Andared finally woke when a splash of cold water hit his face. He threw his arms around trying not to sink only to realise the he was no longer in the water. Only when he tried and failed to sit up he saw that he was lying in a coarse-meshed net, surrounded by fish.

'Wake up!'

Andared heard a low voice shouting in a commanding tone. 'What is your business here in Lenfel waters Loreesi?'

He turned towards the voice and stared into a bearded face with deep black eyes and tanned skin. 'I am no Loreesi' Andared answered, angered by the accusation.

He climbed from the net that was stretched from the outrigger to the hull into the small fishing boat. There he saw the second fisherman, leaning over the other side of the boat with knife in his hand.

'It is your luck one of our nets got caught in seaweed - we would be already back on land this early in the morning. So if you are not from that Loreesi warship that succumbed to the storm last night, who are you and where are you from? Nevermind, the Watch will sort it out when we are back in port. Eat and drink, regain your strength. You will need it. And no sudden movements!'

Proof Of Loyalty by Mitah Val Karem

Once the boat got free from the seaweed they slowly paddled back to shore, always one eye on Andared. They passed the naval docks of Valisport and beached the small boat near the fisher village of the same name. Two guards from the small garrison at the port were already waiting for them.

The fishermen explained how they found Andared and that they didn't quite know whether he told the truth or not, and it was decided that he was to be taken to the garrison for questioning.

'I am from Lenfald, just like you are, why am I treated like an enemy?' Andared asked, angered about being ignored and not having a say in it all.

'Silence!' one of the guards replied, 'The city of Karemdhâron was just attacked by a strong Loreesi host, and ships from the south were seen in our water just last night. The commander will decide whether you are what you say you are or just another spy from Loreos. You can come with us willingly or you can struggle, the choice is yours.'

Seeing that he wouldn't stand a chance against two heavily armoured guards he reluctantly followed them to the road leading away from the beach. As the road made a turn to the east, following a small cliff parallel to the coast, the high masts of ships and the tower of the harbour garrison could be seen in the distance. They joined a patrol already on the way back to the garrison but came to a halt after just a few minutes.

'Who goes there! Identify yourselves!' Andared heard a harsh voice shouting from the road ahead. A group of soldiers from the Praetorian Guard of the city came up the road from the port. It was rather unusual to see the Guard outside of the city, as they would normally protect the Lord of Karemdhâron. When the two groups came closer together Andared saw a man in between the guards, a dark hood drawn close over his face, wearing not the ornate breastplates like the others but only blackened chain mail. Supporting himself on a battle axe he came closer to Andared until he could see his eye in the shadow of the hood.

'What are you doing in these lands? The guard tells me you came from the see - you were picked up near the wreckage of a Loreesi ship.'

Andared recounted his voyage and adventures in Garheim and how his ship went under in the storm.

After a moment of silence the man replied 'I can not verify whether you speak the truth or not, there have been no news from Garheim for weeks. Yet I hear no deceit in your voice, and even though the times are bleak trust an honour shall not be disregarded lightly. You can follow us back to Karemdhâron where you may take what provisions you need and be on your way.'

'Or', he added, 'you can proof yourself to be loyal to the High Lord and to Lenfald and and accomplish a small but vital task. My city was recently attacked by Lord Tathann of Fangroth, and although the city was not breached it was no victory. The remainder of the Loreesi forces retreated south through the Wandering Woods, but it seems they never came out again. We do not know whether they perished in the dark of the forest or whether they are waiting to strike again. Will you venture into the woods and track them down for me? I can spare two or three rangers to accompany you, if you wish so. What say You?'

Very cool to see you guys doing a collaborative storyline. I love the look of your second scene, the tilted plates/bamboo leaves above the cliff look great as does the little tower :)
