Hey, Welcome to CC!
Don't worry about not having too many bricks, you can still build great vignettes while you build up your collection. And Fancy Bases are just that, Fancy! Much more important is the build itself; and this one is great! There is real potential here, I love how you positioned the figs and created that rubble. In terms of helpful criticism, try adding some green plates for height variation on the grass as well as some rocks and trees. Maybe even expand the base and add a small stream. Nothing sets off an awesome castle like pretty landscape.
Now if you are looking to Improve your skills, check out the
Tutorials Page. It is chock full of great techniques and ideas for you to try.
This one by Derfal Cadarn has been a recent inspiration to the entire community.
For building up your collection, try Bricklink.com. It is A great website with a vast selection of indivudual parts/sets.minifigures for very low prices. But be warned, many of us here call it cracklink since it is so addictive
. Lastly, don't ever get discouraged, only inspired; There will always be people with more bricks and skills then you, so just have fun trying to be the best you can be!

I agree with frisky, this is a great start! The sand green bricks and brick bricks add some nice detail to the wall and the figs are posed expertly.
I also agree with frisky's landscape tips. Another idea is to make sure your walls aren't entirely flat, in the third pic the whole back section is flat. Having the towers stick out a stud or two further than the wall adds visual interest and is more realistic. Keep on building

Sweet, thanks for the comments and tutorial links. I will be sure to make good use of them
. Bricklink is scary though, since I do tend to buy too much at once
. I will just have to practice my self control.
I will be working on more detailed walls/landscape next
.

Nice first build.
Frisky has given a good answer. There's a lot of nice wall textures being tested out there, so its worth looking at other people's builds and getting inspiration from there. Some of the ideas that are inspiring me involve 100's, possible 1,000's of small pieces so that may be worth considering when bricklinking. I would encourage small scenes to begin with. If you enjoy big builds you can build up to that
And you can never have enough bricks!
Enjoy building

Welcome to Classic-Castle, Rushifed!
This is quite an impressive build. The texturing of the castle wall has a very realistic look to it and I'm liking how you posed the minifigures.

I have the same problem. Bricklink is made to buy piece's in bulk though, so feel free to go for it.
Great job and I hope to see you building more and more!
