My question:

In the castle category, does it matter to what scale we build the castle, as long as it is bigger than a 32/32? What if we can't build a full sized MINIFIG scale castle, can we make a castle to a smaller scale? (Ex. Microfig)

For the Secret Hideout category can the outlaws be our own (purist) custom-made faction?

Wow I sure feel sorry for the Admins who have to answer all these questions! :?

This isn't a comment to say, "sweet" or "awesome" but I just want to use this post and sincerely thank all those who are involved in the CCC. You guys don't have to run this, but you invest your time, energy, and efforts into this huge project. A sincerest thank you for all those prize donors, those who are involved and oversee the contest. Thank you so much for your willingness to do this. :)

Dog Ironbones wrote: Question 1: Do all categories have to be minifigure scale.
15 - Basically yes. You could use a bit of microscale in an otherwise fig-scale MOC for the sake of forced perspective, or to include some sort of fairy or other small fantasy race within a fig-scale world, but truly microscale MOCs would go to the Misc. category.
Dog Ironbones wrote: Question 2: Does Set 3739 Blacksmith Shop qualify for the alternate model category.
16 - The category states both no alternate models and KKI onwards (i.e. starting in 2000). I just checked, and set 3739 does not have alternate models on the box, and it came out in 2002, so on both counts this is a perfectly fine set to use.
AK_Brickster wrote:With regard to the lighting category, you mentioned third party or homemade lighting, but what about clone-brand products?
17 - We will discuss this and get back to you. I've seen those clone light bricks in Target as well, so I know what you mean.
-Edit- Okay, let's just say that those clone brick lights are okay, but not highly encouraged. I noted in another answer that I could imagine hiding a small flashlight inside a MOC, and these could be used in a similar way.
royalbrickcustoms wrote:Custom Faction category: Can we make a custom "good" faction fighting a custom "bad" faction in 1 entry?
18 - We will discuss this and get back to you. I'm mainly concerned that with two factions it will make it hard to really see either individual faction.
-edit- We discussed and think you should only have one custom faction per entry.

Could you clarify what you mean by this?
Crazycrownieguy wrote:I have a question, in the building an alternate model for a set category, could we use the extra pieces from the set as well, or only the pieces listed in the back of the instructions?
19 - If it came in the box, you can use it. Basically treat this category as "what could you build if you only owned this one set?"

20 - That category has a minimum size, but no maximum, so you can build anywhere from just over 32x32 to a MOC that fills a gymnasium. As to microscale, no, see question 15 above.

See question 8 above (basically yes).

I thought I would never have to do this but I have a question.

So with the Custom Faction category can I use these heraldry http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=499931 or do I have to use one that hasn't been seen before.

Thanks

Purple Wolf :)

Ok, thanks Bruce, and sorry for asking a repeated question :)

I would like to build a scene when a kid is deponent of a brutal act, like hanging.

I have also a second question. In 'Court Entertainment', the entertainment can be a execution of some outlaw?

for those who are going to have difficulty adding real lights to their mocs could we take a light and dark image and edit them together?

21. I will field this one. The answer has been no to digitally altered images that add to or change the moc itself every single year of the CCC. So the answer is going to be no again.

For the Alternate Model Category, is it okay to use a set you don't own but have all the pieces too? As long as you check the parts inventory and such. I assume yes, but I want to check before I start.

Hey all,

Please note that I've updated answers to 17 (clone brick lights okay, but not encouraged) and 18 (only one custom faction per entry in that category).

21 - Just to continue this a little bit - lighting doesn't have to be all that high tech. For instance, I've got a small (~ four inch) flashlight sitting next to my bed just in case there's a power outage. I could imagine building a MOC with a built-in compartment to house that flashlight behind a fireplace with trans-orange flames, and so when the light was turned on it looked like the fire was burning, etc.
Purple Wolf wrote: So with the Custom Faction category can I use these heraldry http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=499931 or do I have to use one that hasn't been seen before.
22 - No, the point of the category is to come up with a new custom faction (and use them in a scene). Re-using an old faction would be like re-using an old MOC.
Lolino wrote:I would like to build a scene when a kid is deponent of a brutal act, like hanging.
23 - Children (an everyone else) did not always have happy lives in medieval times, and so could be the victims of all sorts of things like plague, war, crime, etc. So this would be technically acceptable.
Lolino wrote:I have also a second question. In 'Court Entertainment', the entertainment can be a execution of some outlaw?
24 - While executions were certainly seen as a public spectacle, they weren't really court entertainment, so we're going to say no on that one.
Takkata wrote:For the Alternate Model Category, is it okay to use a set you don't own but have all the pieces too? As long as you check the parts inventory and such. I assume yes, but I want to check before I start.
25 - Sure. Check the set inventories on BrickLink or Peeron, or download the instructions from PICSL, to make sure that you're not using parts that would not have been available in that set.

I guess this could be a general question, but I'm asking mainly with the "child's life" category in mind. Is it ok to use Brick Fortress articulated mini legs? It seems like it would be nice to be able to show action when the main focus of the build is what the child is doing.

Thanks.

I don't have a lot of foliage. Is it all right for me to use altBricks leaves, besides my small amount of Lego foliage?

Alternate Model - Can we use licensed sets like Hogwart's Castle or Helm's Deep, or does it need to be part of the evergreen Castle line?

Jumping off this, what if I wanted to use the completely unrelated theme of monster fighters, and their set "Vampire Castle." ? additionally "Build a unique castle creation" Doesn't mean it has to be a castle, could I use a StarWars Ewok set to build a forest scene? Where do we draw the line here? If we say no other themes besides just the main castle ones, that would exclude LotR, (Which would be lame!) but if not I could arguably use a Starwars set.
