CCCXI: Realistic Castle Minifig: Daimyo Takeda Shingen

Post by tomcatrio »

Hi all, my first time participating in CCC! Well, I wanted to participate back in 2008/09 but i didn't have time to finish my MOCs, and worse, I forgot my username and password recently! So I created a new account for this. Some of you might know me from Eurobricks where I am also active in the Minifig Custom thread.

This is my entry, Takeda Shingen, a 16Cent Daimyo, from the middle part of the Warring period of Japan from the mid 1400's to early 1600. He died before he could fulfil his ambition of reuniting Japan. Indeed, his enemies such as Oda Nobunaga, and the Tokugawas, eventually won control and unified Japan.

List of parts used:

Helmet-
standard Samurai helmet from Lego, with a lego string, tied to neck
A cut up Bow, and the top of a lion sword from Chima (BL part 11103) forms the crest.
Antlers from Brickwarrior
Neck armour from green stuff, and also a LOTR ring.

Torso:
Brickforge neck armour and segmented pauldron, glued to the back portion of a standard Lego chest armour piece (2587).
Dragon insignia sculpted from green stuff.
Red and black and orange stripes are all handpainted, to indicate the layers cord samurai armour

Arms - modified to use skeleton arm pin joints between the shoulders. The arm armour is modified from SiDan toys samurai armour (ordered from Minifig cat) and attached with a lego arm clip (59230). Also painted the blue fabric with white cloud pattern, and the forearm armour are actually repainted Brickforge Vambraces.

The waist armours were from Sidan toys, painted and detailed, and then glued onto the fabric kilt of the CMF 7 Bagpiper. This allowed for some flexibilty for the armour to move about. A lego rubberband and sling holds the two Samurai sword, both which have silver motifs painted on black scarbards. 1 of them is from Sidan, the other a standard Lego piece.

Legs- Main legs are standard Lego, with skeleton pin joints at the hip allowing full 360degree turn.
Knees use the joystick piece (4592c02) which is then connected to a 1x1 slope cone. The slope cone is painted with a flowery trouser pattern. The shin armour is made from half of a technic pin (32054) which was painted, and then tied to the legs with 2 Lego strings at the top and bottom ridge.

Feet was a binocular piece (30162) with toes jammed in (toes were the two ends of a animal tooth piece (53451). If you look closely you can see the blue cloud pattern painted onto the socks. The edge of the binos were painted sandal brown, and lastly a flat cardboard was glued at the bottom to make the sole.

The Flintlock Arquebus and the banner on the back are from Sidan Toys. In the Archery scene, the bow is from Sidan while the arrow is actually from BricksTaiwan.

The horse is similarly modified, with lots of accesories from Friends, such as the flowers. The red skirting are from a flipper (2599) and would you believe, the frills of the Dragon Horse helmet (6125).
