Thank you for compiling these. I anxiously await the results for MB, now that I have a better idea of who is in the running for it!

Are there 100 less entries this year as opposed to last year? For my part, I simply had less time to build, but I would have been able to put out 6 at most given my build speed. Just curious if that was a big fluctuation from last year. Seems like we have 27 less people enter as well.
Hey,

I had some concern about this as well, but when you look at the statistics over the last several years, you'll see there has been a fair amount of year-to-year fluctuation:
Image
The x-axis is CCC 4 through 11, the blue line is the number of total entries, the red line is the number of people participating, and the green line is the number of people vying for master builder. Back in CCC 7 and 8 I was afraid we were in a steady decline, and the contest was going to go away. Then in 9 and 10 we saw a big swing upward, and I thought maybe it would keep increasing. Now a bit of a dip back down, but nowhere near the record lows of a couple of years ago, so I just think there is some natural variation. It might be because we advertised more widely last year than this. It might be because there were other contests, fan gatherings, or other things occupying builders' minds this year that weren't last year. Who knows? As long as we don't see a steady trend one way or the other over multiple years, I don't think we can make any big conclusions on contest participation.

There are some super neat statistics in this thread. Its really neat to see that fluctuation of builders and entries over the years and how CC has grown. I didn't participate in the CCCXI last year and have but I really hope to this year.

I eagerly await the result as does everyone else! It truly is the greatest Castle contest on the web, and is a favourite time of year for me as a builder to see the skill and imagination that everyone uses in this contest! In total, there has been almost 2,500 entries over the past 8 years! :D

Thanks again for the stats Bruce!

Jens compiled them, I just threw those three data points for the past several CCCs into a graph.

Thanks for the graphs Bruce! Great info. I am somewhat of a newbie as I only participated this year and last and have been around CC since 2010, so there is a great deal of building that I have missed. I know for me personally, I was so burnt out from Brickcon and with increased demands from work, my build time was 1/4 of what it was last year. Also many of our local LuGs have gotten much more active so that plays a factor as well. Even so, there were some awesome entries this year.
