Pirate Rock

Post by Fraslund »

Hello CC!

I originally intended this for CCCXI secret hideout, but the project was way more ambitious that I originally anticipated. I reached roughly the halfway point during the last week of the contest and had to decide whether to rush the moc and make something slapped together and not representative of the work it was inspired on, or just opt out and throw the time into this to make it as best as I can.

This build was very challenging for be because of all of the angles. I needed to make this look very organic with very little plant life and that was a huge challenge. Also making the decision to use Brown rock has the added challenge of making the distinction between rock and wood more difficult. I really tried to push myself outside of my comfort zone with this build. If you look at my chimneys you will notice a very mottled rockwork which normally for me is something I try to avoid in favor of a more clean look. In this build, that style really fit what I was trying to accomplish.

Wow! This is awesome! Great job with this, I'm glad you didn't enter it because 1) it would have crushed my puny entry to the hideout category, and 2) I'm glad we got to see it in all its glory rather than just half finished.

This is fantastic! Those olive chees slopes look great on the roofs. I had planned on doing something like that in the distant future, but you got first blood. Great work man, it's wonderful.

Will you be displaying this at any conventions?

A stunning piece of work! The ramshackle pirate appearance you managed to achieve, while still being a clean sturdy build is amazing! The pirate theme really doesn't get as much love as it deserves. Lovely work all around, and I have to agree with the others, the olive cheese looks great on the roofs. :)

Happy Building,
