Article about Dr. Carney's castles

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

On Twitter I ran across this article about Dr. Carney's castles. If you are newer to the hobby and unfamiliar with him, Robert Carney has built MOCs of ~140 or so historical castles.

He's really a great inspiration for all castlers and AFOLs all over the world and also a legend in this theme.
Here in LUG Brasil we are preparing an interview with him very interesting. I believe we can publish it soon.

Great article! Like Adolfo said, he is a very big inspiration for us Castle builders, especially for those who want to go and build giant castles like him. :) Unfortunately that won't be me, as I probably won't have enough pieces to finish one side of a castle that big. ;)

Bob Carney is not only a great Lego castles builder, he is a truly nice person and more than this, a friend.
I got the big chance to spend several days with him in Northern Italy in September 2013 visiting castles and in June 2014 in BW Chicago.
He was the reason for me to come out of my Dark Age when I saw his castles the first time.
I think he is the best Lego castle builder and I will explain why.
One can see a lot of Lego castles on internet, but the most of them are not "realistic", a lot of them are "fantasy" creations, with "fantasy" characters, and a very few of them would be able to sustain a true siege because they have no idea about what a true fortification is.
Bob's work is to recreate the REALITY, and being a castle builder too I can say that reality is often more difficult than fantasy, you cannot cheat with reality. He visited hundreds of real castles and his care into architecture and concrete use of it into the fortifications is astonishing, as well as his interest in History.
So, someone may say that his castles are less colorful and funny, but they are just TRUE.
Thanks Bob to be such an inspiration for me!

He told me about this and showed me a picture of you all with his wonderful Neuschwanstein. So cool! Now I know who you are here. Nice to meet you, by the way. :)

I was preparing an article for MOGazine, the online LEGO magazine of Comunidade 0937, from Portugal, discussing about the importance of the preservation of human heritage and how LEGO can help on this task. I asked to Bob if I could count on him and his pictures of the castle to the article and he was very kind authorizing the use of images. Thank you again, Bob! Our interview is being prepared.

if someone wants to read the article and see the pictures, with Bob and his castle, can access the link below:

Robert Carneys castle opened up a world of AFOLS I never knew existed. If one day I could build even one castle that is as good as any of his creations I will be very happy
