Stupidly Small Castle Challenge

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

A couple of days ago, Takkata built Castle Geartop:

Image

On Flickr this has erupted into a challenge to build the smallest possible castle, starting out with Si-MOCs' Pico-castle Blackfish.

Image

I haven't been online much the last few days, so I don't know what order these went in or all that have been made, but some others include Tyler's Fortress fit for a Flea

Image

Si-MOCs made Pico Castle Clites on Cam Falls

Image

Siercon and Coral jumped in with Nano Kingdom

There are probably some others out there by now. How about you? How small can you build?

I don't want to be disrespectful or disparaging, but I don't see it. I look at those and I don't actually see castles. I see parts. Parts that remind me of in accidental arrangements that happen in bags with LEGO in it and I know that is not the intent, I know these builders have worked very hard to select the pieces they use. I don't want to dismiss them or be negative because those who build in micro scale blow my mind with their awesome ways of seeing things. More power to them for their creativity. I give them props for trying and showing it all off. This is definitely something I don't think I would be successful at.

But! Any attention castle gets is worth a good celebration...so...as it is done at Brickcon...use your extra deep voice (this I don't have) and bellow CASTLE! in celebration.

These are intresting builds... I do not agree with blue's opinion however.

Yes these are a grouping of parts. One needs to use their imagination to see the castle's. Yes some of these builds will stretch the imagination ;) . Also I feel these are not Micro scale.I am going to use the term "Nano-scale" for these builds. It takes work to try to make something resemble a building on such a small scale. I give props to the builders for opening a new area of building. I find these builds to be encouraging an inspiring to builders whom may want to try a different build scale.

Build On... My fellow legoholics!

I built something similar back in 2009 when I was visited by Harold, the Traveling Castle Figure. Looking at it now, there are plenty of things I'd do to improve it, but I thought it was clever for a rush job.

I think a lot of these small castles are cool, especially Baruk Khazad and Fortress Fit for a Flea.

However, I understand where Bluesecrets is coming from. Some of the really small ones, particularly on the Flickr thread, are only recognizable as castles because somebody said they were castles. Also, I personally object to builds where the parts aren't actually connected or are glued where there aren't connection points. To me, that is not in the spirit of "building" with Lego. Still, they are clever takes on the idea and I enjoyed looking at them.
