Hey,
I have started building The Gate of the Lonely Mountain, also called Erebor. I post this here because I am looking for some advices.
I hope that final result will look like this.

Re: Erebor [WIP]
Looks grand so far! Do you plan to add detail to the sections where you used 6x5 bley panels?
And will you add on to the base to allow for more rockwork, like in the source image?
I'm sure the finished build will be amazing

Re: Erebor [WIP]
You started very well and hopw you will keep on and finish it.
If I compare original and your MOC it looks like you put rocks a bit close to first pillars. You will lack space in '2nd floor' for details on sides.
My advice is to take care about texture on flat sections on the walls, make them even on symetrical parts. You did not now and this is a reason why it look strange. I know it is hard to get proper parts in proper quantities, but you decided for huge project and time should not be your enemy. Use 1x2 bricks instead of panels and effect will be noticable.

Re: Erebor [WIP]
Sweet. I was working on an Erebor MOC too, but scrapped it because I wanted the grey bricks for something else. Yours is much better than mine was shaping up to be.

Re: Erebor [WIP]
Looks like this will be amazing once complete! My ony suggestion would be to break up the stone work with either some dark grey or textured bricks. It's looking a bit BGW right now.

I was thinking about it but I think it won't look THAT bad when it will be finished. You know, it is gonna be big so the space where are these panels won't be that big.subix wrote:My advice is to take care about texture on flat sections on the walls, make them even on symetrical parts. Yeah, of course .soccerkid6 wrote:And will you add on to the base to allow for more rockwork, like in the source image?
Yes. I did it on purpose. I am gonna cut it like this. Blue line is my plan but I am also thinking about red line.subix wrote:If I compare original and your MOC it looks like you put rocks a bit close to first pillars. You will lack space in '2nd floor' for details on sides.
Yeaaaah. That's one of the biggest problems because it has to look like this, like BGW. It has to be clear, you know, it is dwarfs' work .friskywhiskers wrote:My ony suggestion would be to break up the stone work with either some dark grey or textured bricks. It's looking a bit BGW right now.
But I am still thinking about it.
Thanks for comments, guys!
