Colossal Castle Contest 14

Post by architect »

The CC Team is proud to announce our fourteenth annual building contest: The Colossal Castle Contest XIV. It begins on November 1st, 2016 and ends on December 31st, 2016.

This contest is a bit different than other contests. We have a variety of categories each with one prize for the winner. Some categories require small creations and others need larger ones. Everyone, even with a limited supply of bricks, should be able to enter several categories. We are looking for creativity, not who has the most LEGO.

Check out the prizes. Classic Castle sets include the popular Forestmen's Hideout, Camouflaged Outpost, Dungeon Hunters, Twin-Arm Launcher, King's Archer, Knight's Arsenal, and Castle Guard. The fourteenth CCC also has other awesome prizes including LEGO Books, Gold Getaway, Troll's Warship, Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle, and Kingdoms Joust. It truly is colossal!

Thank you to several anonymous donors and Rich Stehnach "Blackrock" for donating prizes for this contest.

The contest rules can be found here Enjoy!

Note: Please feel free to ask contest questions in this thread. It may take several days for an admin to answer your specific contest questions. It is important to know that the admins have real lives and it may take over a week for your entry to be approved.

I'm entering again, just for the fun of building though. Thought I'd make double sure, the Ice Castle category doesn't need to be built of ice? It can be just a stone castle in a winter setting? Nice categories btw.

The wait is finally over!

I want to start with a big thanks to everyone that has a part in the contest. Thank you for putting in so much effort every year and donating some wonderful prizes. Even if I don't enter every year this is my favourite online Lego contest.

I do have a few questions though,

1) This is a general question but I am looking at in the context of the Siege Warfare category. Does this category have to have creations that are grounded in reality, or can creations be of fantasy origin something akin to the Lord of the Rings?

2) For the Historic Illumination category, what constitutes a mosaic? Does it have to be studs up or out? Or could I view it as simply a flat creation? I can PM an Admin with what I was hoping to do if that is needed.

3) For the Ice Castle category, does the structure made have to fit squarely in the castle category? Or can the structure be a tower, fortified manor, or something of the like?

I think that is all for now, thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Happy building everyone, I am looking forward to see what everyone makes,

Also, one question, it said that you should use flickr or brickshelf, but is it ok if I use MocPages? Will it takes points off my scores? Or will it just be an inconvenience... Thanks for the time! :D

Thank you.

1. Correct. The castle can be built of ice or a stone (or wooden or brick) castle in a winter setting.
TheLordOfBricks wrote:...Siege Warfare category. Does this category have to have creations that are grounded in reality, or can creations be of fantasy origin something akin to the Lord of the Rings?
2. The siege weapons can be realistic or fantasy based.
For the Historic Illumination category, what constitutes a mosaic? Does it have to be studs up or out? Or could I view it as simply a flat creation? I can PM an Admin with what I was hoping to do if that is needed.
3. The mosaic could be studs up, studs out, or viewed flat. Please pm us with your idea. Thanks.
For the Ice Castle category, does the structure made have to fit squarely in the castle category? Or can the structure be a tower, fortified manor, or something of the like?
4. Yes. It does have to be a castle. This is our main "castle" category this year. However your castle could feature a large tower or keep.
is it ok if I use MocPages? Will it takes points off my scores? Or will it just be an inconvenience... Thanks for the time!
5. While we prefer other image hosting options, you can use a MocPages page for each entry so long as your page meets the image size and quantity requirements.

6. Possibly if it was large enough and shaped like a castle.

As people have already said, some great looking categories there. Really looking forward to seeing what people come up with, and may even have to enter a couple myself!

Is custom-cut cloth, string and the like allowed? I am most interested for the sake of the ship-building category.
