Well, we haven't announced winners yet, JP. Your patience would be very appreciated.

We will be doing this sometime this week or next - all of the admins have sent in their grades and now it is just about adding up the scores and updating the contest page.

Um, what exactly is playability. im kind of new here so does it mean the more guys and the more stuff they have on such as sheaths and the like give it playability, or does it mean the easier and less combersoome or easier to play witht it is? :?:

Not that this applies to me, but I was actually wondering how a Vignette can have playability since they are meant to be static scenes.

but its hard to know what it is because if you put more stuff on the guy, theres more to play with but its also harder to play with. left me sort of in the dark in the contest as to how to make my entries

Make the best MOC you possibly can. That's all there is to it.

Playability has nothing to do with the amount of stuff on each fig, or the amount of figs in the MOC, or anything like that.

You could ask this question about any of the three main qualities that the contest entry is graded on.

Creativity, Details, and Playability.

Good details and playability means there was a good amount of creativity, right?

But this is a contest where the Admins are asked to evaluate each contest - we have three categories, but each requires the Admin to make a subjective evaluation. Not only of the MOC, but of what the score categories mean. There are seven admins, I'd bet we'd get seven individual answers.

For me, creativity and details go hand in hand - they mean something that is new, original, and well done. Creativity has more to do with the over-all aesthetic of the model, while details refers to the smaller aesthetic perspective. A 3CS house may look very well built, but without a built interior, it will score high on creativity and low on detail.

Playability on the other hand, is less about aesthetics, and more about the spirit that the model creates. There is no "Mosaic" category, because Mosaics are necessarily static. Vignettes are also meant to be static, but they can be dynamic with a sense of action. A good Vignette looks like a moment frozen in time, that could start again at any moment. A bad vignette looks like some guy just sitting there or standing there, not doing anything, not participating in world around him.

So Playability is about making a MOC dynamic. Something that you could theoretically get involved in and have fun with - open the building up, take the figs out, pretend they are going about their day. Playability is about remembering that LEGO is a toy, and that we should try to infuse our MOCs with that sense of youthful action.

Hope that makes sense!

I interpreted this in much the same way. In evaluating a vignette, I'm looking for "life", or "story". To choose an example that wasn't up for judging, look at Tony's "Cold Winter's Knight":

That one just makes me shiver and I can feel the wind against my face when I look at it. I wonder where the knight is going in such horrid weather, and hope that there's some hot chocolate waiting for him when he gets there. If this were in the contest, I would have given it very high "playability/life" marks.

Sheesh, how many times do I need to ask for patience?

Well, the grades have been tabulated and now I know the winners - and Ben is going to be turning the tabulations into some nifty-keen html and we'll be announcing winners within a few days!

Actually, I don't really care who wins. I'm more excited about the prospect of discussing the great MOCs that were entered in the contest. There were alot of fantastic designs, and I really can't wait to here what other people think :) .

Now that the grades are in, it seems like a great time to talk about these wonderful MOCs. It actually might be more interesting to here people's opinions before the final results are disclosed.

Later.
