Ok, here is my entry. Just one little one. It only has 274 people, (I believe, I might have forgotton the exact number).

This is every last single castle or castlish guy I own. Sad I know. But I happened to have em all out and this contest came along sooo....

I had taken these pics a few weeks ago for the contest, but forgot about posting it until now.

So anyway, here it is.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=113963

I know its 12 pics, but I believe some of them are the same pic, just in different forms of digital lightening.

The battle basically happened when a bunch of good guys were ambushed on the road. They have made use of the terrain and formed a ring (more or less) of spears. The bad guys are at about 200 men and the good 60ish.

Ten of the baddies tried to sneek around and attack from the back of the hill but as seen here they don't succeed.

Also a small group of elves here come in help the good guys. And a group of other guys here also come in and help.

So please tell me what you think and I hope it makes a decent entry.

Dan

Wow, I was offline for one day and look at all the questions and entries. I will do my best to answer them but I just got back from a big paintballing day and am rather beat. Here goes.
swordfish wrote:Some more questions:
1 Are you allowed to use mirrors to make it look like there is a massive amount of soldiers. Because, I guess people could make tons of soldiers with ldraw so why not be allowed to use mirrors to make it look like tons of people.
2 Can the pics be of different stages in the battle, e.g. first a pic of all the armies lined up in formation, then a pic of them charging, then them in full combat? You could have the pics tell the story of the battle.
3 Are non-lego landscapes allowed (e.g. snow, paper mache, generally outdoors)?

Thanks
Honestly I never thought of using mirrors. No that's not allowed. And if someone used LDraw to create tons of soldiers I would not grade that very high as that would be abusing the use of LDraw. Yes, the pics can different stages in the battle. I am not a big fan of using non-lego but go ahead if you want. I just won't be very impressed by it.

Nope, you can only win once.
DaveOhare01 wrote:Josh -- Can I enter the battle scene I posted? I know there are space folks in there ... but you just never know! (Those spacers are shifty!)I assume the 'impossibly large' comments were for me? Wait until you see the next castle!
Sorry, Dave. If I let you enter a battle with space stuff, I have to let other people. And you are right, there are space fans here. But this site is for lego castle. I personally really like your battle scene, it just doesn't fit this contest. So I can't in good conscience allow it. And I have no problem with large creations. It was porschem2 who said that. :)

No limit. The only person it inconveinences is me and I am willing to take the consequences. ;)
Dragon Master wrote:Just a question, is late medieval weaponry like firearms and bombard allowed?
Yes, as long as you keep it as historical as possible. So, it depends on the firearms. You can't use the western rifles, western pistols, pirate cannons, or blasters. Remember the early handheld guns were not exactly muskets. And they were expensive and not that common. So tread softly in your use of them. I will be picky about this.

Okay, I am about to fall asleep, so I must go now. Have fun building and thanks for the questions.

Take care,
Josh

I'm really interested in this contest, but I don't have a digital camera. What brands and price ranges would you recommend? Also, I have a shortage of baseplates. Would points be counted off if I used non-LEGO ground, such as actual dirt and grass?

I'm not really qualified to answer that. I have one but am no expert on various models, prices, etc. I know there have been numerous threads about this in the publishing forum. You might want to check that out. Are you thinking about buying a camera just so you can enter this contest? Wow.
Dragonlord Esq. wrote:Also, I have a shortage of baseplates. Would points be counted off if I used non-LEGO ground, such as actual dirt and grass?
You would not score as high as if you used lego landscaping. But if you are willing to buy a camera, why not grab a 32 baseplate or two as well. Two of them will set you back ten to twelve bucks, depending on where you buy them.

Take care,
Josh
