Different doors for 40242

Post by bannear »

Earlier this month or the end of January I was mentioning a door idea based on the 40242 door frame (http://peeron.com/inv/parts/40242) and a 2625 boat bow (http://peeron.com/inv/parts/2625).
Here is a pic,

and the gallery when public

My build pictures turned out lousy, so if anyone wants some details, let me know and I will try again.

Right now, I can't access either of the gallerys because they are still not public, You needed to make the link directly to the picture, as in you go into the gallery, click on the picture so it is bigger, then click on it again so it is the only picture in your window with white everywhere else.

Just a hint. :D
Can't wait to see it.

edit: I now see that the first one says "file is not yet public" so now I am really confused...

Very nicely done. Its good for someone like me who has lots of those pieces you used for the door (i hit a starwarz craze, lots of sets came with that.) and who didn't jump on the HP craze and are lacking proper doors.

Thanks for the idea

Very clever door design. I'd never thought of different doors for that frame. Excellent job!

I don't like those frames. They look funny with the stone texture. When you place them into a brickbuilt wall, the stone texture around the door makes it look off.

Thrall,
Thanks for the tips regarding posting pics.
Draygen, Josh, Athos, thanks for the comments.
I too have far too many pieces that are not specifically castle and keep trying to find ways to use them - this one seems to work.
I have over 200 door frames of various types without doors from a big bulk lot I bought - I thought there would be some doors with all those frames :?

I agree that these door frames do seem a bit odd next to smooth brick. my plan is to use them as doors that are inset into a two to three deep doorway/porch, so that it is less obvious with the rest of the structure. Another option I have considered is to put the stickered brick wall pieces next to them to allow a better transition. If you use them for a Castle town building doorway they don't seem so bad.
I'll have to see how all these ideas work together. I have 3 grey and 14 Orange of the 40242 Door frame - so it will be a challenge to fit them into a wall.
Any other ideas how to make them blend in?
Cheers,
SirBert

I just thought of this, but if you placed the doorway into what would be a natural stone cliff face (kind of like a door to a cave, or some such thing) it might look better. Maybe I'll try and build an example of what I mean, just in case this isn't clear.

Very interesting and creative; I wouldn't have thought of this. One suggestion, however – the doorknobs are currently rather high. If you moved them down a stud they would be more realistic.

Sorry to say but I'd just get rid of these frames, I personally hate em. TLC didnt even bother to finish the other side! A real half-MEGABLOKS effort on Legos behalf. I do admire that you are trying to use the pieces and praise be to you for finding somewhat of a solution. I still hate em though. The doors that come in the frame are awsome but the frame itself is just MEGABLOCKS.
