Castles by Denix
I'm not sure why, but all of Denix's castles appeared on today's 'recent' page on Brickshelf. If newer forum members haven't seen these before, I figure this is a good time to get acquainted. For older forum members, there's nothing new here, but these are certainly galleries that I can return to again and again.

Wow, this can really build castles. And a lot too. The land scaping isn't too spectacular except for the that fact of how BIG the land is.
Some of his early castles really show a large amount of BGWS (big gray wall syndrome), but his they get better as tehy go along. Comparing his first and last castles together, you can really see a big difference.
Thanks for showing.

I build, therefore I am.

Hello!
Yeah, I like Denix' castles/pirate fortresses very much. (Everything involving water is cool in general :-) ) The simplicity yet elegance in his buildings is great. And that's exactly why this is my favourite, despite the "big grey wall syndrom":

This is just the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.

I have always loved Denix's castles, real great stuctures even with BGWS...as Lemon_squeezer2 said, it just looks right sometimes.

This page used to say "Under Construction," but now it says "unachieved." I'm assuming that he's not going to finish it? That's a shame, because this was shaping up to be one of the most impressive castle structures I've ever seen. *sigh* Oh well.

I think that is one of his weakest attempts at a castle. I like how it is built on a rock like that, but I think the rock was built to fit the castle, not the other way around. That can really be important in landscaping.doctorsparkles wrote:http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=120723

I actually get that feeling from most of his castles, but you're right. It is more apparent with this one due to its specific shape. It would be easily remedied by adding some bulk between the two forward towers. The rest of the base seems to have a pretty unique shape.Dragon Master wrote:I think that is one of his weakest attempts at a castle. I'm more impressed with the size, the look of the buttresses, and the way he built the timber-frame houses directly into the courtyard walls. Maybe none of these things are terribly difficult to accomplish, but I think that the result is impressive.

As somebody who doesn't mind big grey wall syndrome, I actually like Denix's work alot. I really like the fact that all of his MOCs seem to be located on an unspecified body of water. To me, it suggests a medieval waterworld (please forgive me for mentioning that awful movie)! I do hope that he will be able to finish his latest MOC!
