Hey, I like that. It's given me some ideas, using 1x1 round plates instead of the 2x2 turntables. Must give it a go...

 That's a lot of stairs! So many, in fact, that I didn't want to quote Bruce  . I really need to do something with those soon.

Haha, got my pictures up.
I built and photographed every buildable variation on my "put the 1x1 on any of the four central studs, or in the middle, to get different sizes and rates of turning." idea, using 2x4 plates for stairs.

The useable ideas:
1x1 connected to southwest of bottom plate and southwest of top plate: side top

northwest of bottom plate connected to southwest of top plate: side top

Middle west of bottom plate connected tosouthwest of top plate: side top

northwest of bottom plate connected to middle west of top plate: side top

The unusable (minifig can't walk up or down stairs) ideas that are usable with longer 2x plates:
Middle connected to middle: side top

Northwest connected to northwest: side top
Gallery
I sure hope that helps someone.

Hey Lord Mikal,

That's great! Would you be interested in writing that up as a how-to article? Maybe with your variations on connectivity and then also links to the other examples that both you and I found. If not, I'd be happy to write it up and connect to your gallery.

Thanks Mikal, but I'm going to use Forester's version, just because I like the way it looks and also because it isn't easily breakable. Thanks guys.

You don't have to use the 'Lord' part; I tried to sign up as just 'Mikal' but the server said it was already taken. Anyway, I'd perfer if you wrote it up, because I'm not particularly good with HTML... or words for that matter.

HenrytheV: The other good thing about Forester's version is that it overlaps itself after only one revoloution. Most of the ones I built require at least two full revoloutions to match up. In addition, the corners of the plates stick out funny, so these would really be best for open areas.
