Odd, but true. We do have them around!
The Castillo de San Marco in St.Augustine Florida!
Built by the Spanish in the 1500's to protect Florida from the English and Pirates. The fort is made of coquina, which is a remarkable substance for absorbing cannon fire rather than breaking apart. The fort was never taken through military force (although it was passed back and forth via treaty).
This was made for the Historic Trust Competition being held at BrickFest 2005 this summer.
Enjoy!

Very good. The cannons seem a little big, though. But hey, it's great that the word got out that America has castles!

I think the model is good, but the cannons and people are too big. Great Job Though

Nice! I love miniatures. I think scale is less important than how well the elements in the miniature evoke the real thing. Both the people and cannons are instantly recognizable. Great work!
I'm just mad because I visited St. Augustine in December of 1995, during the government shut-down. We could look at the outside of the Castillo, but weren't able to go inside.

Very cool minature!
I've had the pleasure of visiting this fort a couple times and it is very cool!
I would like to do a mini-fig scale version of this fort some day.

Hey Lenny,
Great rendition. I especially like the use of clips as battlements and your micro-spheres as trees.
