The Samurai Village Completed(preview picture)

Post by Scnicker »

Hey there everyone,
It has been ages since you saw one of my creations. I was away, enjoying my self and didn't have my Lego there with me. Anyways, now I'm back on track and will show you the overall progress with my village.
The things that got me started on this were; me watching the last samurai for the 51th time and watcing Ronin(Jean Renau and Robert De Niro). I've also read the tale of the 47 Ronin.
Anyways, only three areas have been completed so far. The main shrine/temple, a house and the rice field. I've also noticed that I've improved my building. Anways, I've talked too much. Here are some pictures.

The Temple:My best building so far. It is built on a 32x32 green baseplate and a tan 16x32 baseplate.

The House: This is the only house i've built so far. I'll build more:)

The Rice Field: This was inspired from the last samurai mainly. And I also think that this adds a feeling to the village.

And now the town with all 3 buildings:

Well, that's it. Please post your comments and criticism because those really help! And I hope you like it.

Oh and btw, the folder when public:

Anyways, Happy building everyone!

Wow I really like it. I was looking at the photos before I read what you wrote and waht I was thinking of was The Last Samurai!!!

I really like the buildings but my fav is the rice field. I think that you did the land scapeing really well, I really like the tree.

One thing that I think could change would be to make the buildings more open , and able to look into them. But the plan of the buildings really has a Japanese feel to it. Well Done, I can't wait to see more :D

Thanks for the gracious words :D
About building the buildings more open, I'm not really the interior type. I love building the exterior more than building the interior.

Me too. I love a good interior, but it's not exactly my area of expertise, either. Now onto your MOC!

This is a very believable village. The rice field gives it a great feel, and the temple is just the right size. The house is good, too; a nice, simple design!

Hey that is cool!

I really like your rice field, you should make it a bit bigger though.

Nice work, Yanki! I do agree that it would be nice to see into the buildings, but they're certainly evocative of a Samurai village as they are.

About the rice paddy, might I suggest making the field more symmetrical? The Japanese character for "field" comes from the (usually) square shape of rice paddies.

Here's a really nice reference pic of a rural Japanese village:

I still really like the rice paddy, though! :D

EDIT: Oops, pasted the same link twice. I just fixed the link to the reference pic.

Good work, I especially like the ricefield. The temple is good too but i think it would look better with plain slopes for the ceiling. Well done anyway ;)

Thanks everyone.

Maedhros, the reason why the slopes aren't flat is that I ran out of them :(.
I need to order more sometime. Anyways, keep the posts coming.

Hey,

Looks good. I actually greatly prefer the roof built of plates on the temple. That gets the shape right whereas the one with slopes doesn't look so authentic.

Looking forward to more of this village. Any plans for a story? How about a Ninja invasion like that scene in the Last Samurai.

Sorry for double-posting, but, my biggest project is now complete! It's a samurai town built on a total amount of 64x112 studs.

Here are the features:
-Upgraded rice fields
-autumn walkway
-the blacksmith
-an ordinary house
-training grounds
-the temple
-rock formation
-relaxation cove
-bathing pool
-a little waterfall
-the fields
-my leg

Because I've completed this at night, I'll be posting the main pictures tomorrow, but for not to keep you guys waiting, here are two preview ones.

I'll post again when I take the other pictures, but please comment on these. I've put a lot of work in it and I want to hear something from you guys.

Wow, nice setup. I like the idea with the roofs, I'll have to remember it. I really like landscaping, and you've done quite a bit.

I'm not too sure of the main building, it seems to be lacking something. I'm not sure what it is, but it's something to think about anyway.
