Triumphal arch
Hello!
Hm, you got like 31 replies on your privious post. Not all of them concerned with the "Clone bricks" topic. That's more than many ..uhm... more advanced MOCs get. Do you expect all of the 762 registered users to comment on your MOC?
Bye

This is just the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.

Again, as soon as I start the forum goes off-topic. I hardly got five or six on-topic replies for the last one.Jojo wrote:Hello!

Nice arch. Nice red........
Ok, here is what I want to say:
Don't defy the admins. Really. I know I did it once and it cost me about 260 posts.
You are in danger by starting a similar thread.
Cant talk, gotta run, here comes the Admins.
Forgive my reply O powerful ones.

You know you're a good person when you see megablocks and have to do things you would rather not.

Oh I didn't know that I wasn't allowed... I thought it was locked because of all the off-topic replies, and I could start a new one, keeping everything on-topic. My apologies to the admins if I've defied them. They are free to lock it again, and I won't re-post the topic. I'll have to come up with a different MOC.Luís wrote:Nice arch. Nice red........

Well, you're right you can do that, but is taken as a act of defial, they locked the thread and you should leave it as it is.Nick wrote:Oh I didn't know that I wasn't allowed... OK, you said, "don't conceal criticisms!"
Well, your arch is about as triumphal as a wet noodle, sorry. The idea is great but historical triumphal arches are far larger in scale, more detailed in construction and decoration and not usually coloured.
Scale: The height is good for mini-figs but the depth is all wrong. You have created a gate to a park. A triumphal arch should be thick enough to house a set of stairs to the top or a small shop inside. As well the dimensions of the three arches should be more balanced. The central arch should be large enough for two horses with riders carrying lances with banners to ride side by side. The two smaller arches should be wide enough for a soldier to march through carrying a spear with a banner.
Construction: when making the arch more massive it also needs to be more detailed. Lots of columns and half-columns built into the side for texture. A flat wall of bricks is always boring and makes the arch a simple gate. Some niches and a pediment are also pretty standard.
Decoration: The main thing missing is statuary. Without statues of gods, goddesses, heroes or the subject of the arch (or all of the above) it is not really a triumphal arch. Into the niches you have built (see above) place statues, busts, even a whole scene if you can. Just do it all in the same stone/marble colour of the arch construction. People on the roof of the arch throwing garlands of flowers would also be appropriate for a scene of a triumphal procession or parade.
Hope that gives you some ideas. Pictures of real arches would be useful. Try the library or Google.

Nick: As a general rule, it's not a good idea to repost a thread that was locked by the Admins. It was locked for a reason, you know.
