Store display
Hey all,
Finetooth has this layout called store display:
It's dusty as heck and beat up, so I'm guessing this was a LEGO-built display that was in a store window for a long time and then in a warehouse. The landscaping is really cool.

When a store takes down a display, if it doesn't go back to the company, it has to go somewhere. If you're lucky and work at such a store, you might be able to claim it. Sometimes these end up on e-bay. Remember when Walmart had a Clone Trooper building contest? These huge boxes of Clone Troopers showed up on e-bay and took in really high prices.
Looking more closely at this, it's definitely been in a warehouse or someone's basement for quite a while. Assuming it was assembled at one time, I'd date it to about 1989, given the figures and special elements (e.g. the horse barding). I assume it's all glued.

Robert Bober posted about how he obtained this display at legofan.org
It seems that they added new sets onto the display. So likely it began in 86 and continued into the 90's. It is quite interesting because the built fortresses are very similar to ones in the 260 Idea Book and a model shown in the first Issue of Brick Kicks:

I would imagine that Karsten Kristensen and other master builders at Enfield made this in the 80's (but I can't prove that).

wow... that must have been an awesome display in it's youth and prime...it's still very impressive now. I like the opposing castles (I assume) facing each other on each end of it, and all the life in between... I would love to see him restore this and present it to us all.
The cool thing about the landscaping (to me) is that it's done very well, but isn't flashy... almost all of it is simple, green bricks... yet it looks realistic and solid... gotta respect that!
P.S. - BreadMan you avatar rocks.

Oh hey thanks . I've been bricklinking a lot of random stuff I wish I had bought during my darkages, mostly minifig stuff, and put together a couple characters I really like.ottoatm wrote: P.S. - BreadMan you avatar rocks.

And that's the saddest thing about this. Such a beautiful selection of pieces. I wonder if there's a way to disolve the glue without harming the bricks.Bruce N H wrote:I assume it's all glued.

Thanks for posting this up. It must of been a great display in its youth. It also serves to underlin how easily that ers's castles could be combined to make an amazing layout. Though the scenery is well done.
God Bless,
