Work in Progress Lion's Rest II

Post by wlister »

Hi All,

I have recently uploaded a new castle and village. It looks a bit like the castle I made for the Supertrain Show last year, but it has been vastly improved. As I said, it is a work in progress, so I do not have all the detailing etc... that I will eventually have. In time I will take all the pics of individual buildings and details as they are completed.

The Gallery is here:

Here is a small preview:

And here is the gallery with the castle in action at SALUG's last train show:

Everything you see that is related to castle is my creation. The pirate ships are not mine, but I do have two cannon-free ships in the works. My timeline is pre-gunpowder.

Let me know what you think. :D

A few answers for questions I know people will ask.

1) No the castle is not detailed inside yet. Wait for version III. I don't even have all the exterior details I wanted to get in finished yet.

2) No the houses are not detailed either. I have a few done, but I take a looong time to get detail work done.

3) The water line isn't finished yet, I did not plan on it looking like a flood.

I like the tentacle things coming out of the base of the seperate tower, the one in the water...very cool, I can just imagine what they mean...

It does look vaguely familiar, and very cool. You have a really excellent framework here - I can't wait to see the extra detail and extra figs that will bring it all to life.

Me too... this is actually the first thing that caught my eye... what can it mean?

I also like the little tudor framework in the gray castle wall - it's a nice touch that adds some color and makes it seem somehow more realistic...

Looks great! I like how the houses have various colored roofs. My favourite part is the tower on it's own little rock island. Very cool.

It isn't just the tentacles that make that part of this castle the most interesting -- the little bridge, tower, and rock formation are all great. Definitely the best part of the MOC. (And the half-timber areas are also great.)

Thanks for the compliments guys, nnyone who has seen the last version of the castle is likely to remember the gatehouse, I hasn't changed much from its first incarnation. I kept a lot of the style elements from the last castle, but the entire rear portion of the castle was completely dismantled and rebuilt. I added the island tower with bridge as an experiment. I have some big plans for the next castle. :D

The chapel behind the gatehouse and underneath the two towers is accessible and will be detailed. As I have time, I will be rebuilding the castle in sections to make the gatehouse and the rest of the buildings accessible. It will eventually become a fully detailed castle. Hopefully by mid-October. After that it will be torn down to make a new castle for our clubs next big train show in Feb.

The story behind the tentacled creature under the rock island is that the island is just an egg for the creature. It was dormant for hundreds of years and now the little beastie has hatched. the Kings wizards are trying to figure out how to get it to leave. It has eaten a few fishermen.

Take a look at the train gallery to see the castle with figs, flags etc... It was a bit of a rush job, but it turned out rather well.

Thanks again for the compliments. :D

Now this is awesome!

I actually imagined the island as housing a prison tower, seperated from the main castle, and that the REALLY bad captives are fed to the beastie below!

I love the village outside the castle as well. Great job all around!

Hey, very cool!
The tentacle thing is a neat idea.
I really like the overall look of the castle thus far.
I like how you built the seperate tower on the little rock island and the village outside the castle is great looking too!

The covered walkway out to the tower on the tentacle creature infested rock is my favourite detail.

The over all "look" as you see the village laid out before this massive fortress is very cool.

I also like the battle scene between the orcs and the army defending the land. The local villagers are pretty confident of the outcome as they come out to watch http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1386065

The villagers were actually running towards the castle. I am hoping someone in my Lug with a better camera took some closer up pics. There is a dead villager being impaled with spears in the bushes by a couple of nasty orcs and the rest of the villagers look suitably scared as they are running away.

Teaser pic of 1/3 of my army to follow later today.

Very nice, Will! I love the texture of the battlements extending from the small tower!

Good work! I look forward to some bigger pics... I like the walkway and coastal scenery (always a personal fav). The village is on a massive scale (not something I could really achieve) and looks great! Keep up the great work.. and I know interiors and details take time (probably more than the structures in my case!)

God Bless,

Nathan
