that monster seems to be a giant werewolf, though I haven't a clue what it'd be called, I haven't run across anything like it in any books I've read. It appears to be eyeless, and those have got to be some pretty strong chains holding it down.
About the rest of the structure, this simply sems to be another case of too many brick coupled with too much time. I think it's interesting that he bothered to do the back of the display, usually something this huge doesn't have a backside. What I find really interesting is the hall done all in white. Compared to the standard tan and brown Viking halls, white gives it a nice etheral quality, gaps in the roof notwithstanding.
