Valkyrie

Post by SavaTheAggie »

Vikings have landed at the Sava household! Woo!

And in honor of that, I needed a Valkyrie.

So.... I made one.

Certainly I'm not the first to think of doing it this way? If I'm not the first I'll be happy to lock the thread.

I like her a lot, just don't put her on a horse!!!! I have to ask though, how did you get those dragon wing thingies into the helmet?

I am 100% unfamiliar with Norse Mythology, so I can only assume Valkyries were never on horses?

The dragon feather plumes have two ways they can be attached to things - one through the small pin that fits into any plume hole. The other is through the handle-diameter, minifig hand compatible section that pin attaches to. The plumes are simply inserted into the helmet backwards.

That's pretty good. If I used the dragon wings on the helmet like that, I'd feel the need to remove the little numb that sticks out, it sort of bothers me.

I would have used the generic girl from the pizza to go town set. Other than that, it looks pretty good.

You're not the first.

I asked if this could be done WAY back in... July I think. I believe it was Stuifzand who was posting about just getting the Vikings, and I was asking if this could be done. After taking a post or three to get the idea across, she posted showing that it could be done.

Can't find the thread though... :?

Don't need to lock this, though, since there isn't a thread highlighting it yet.

I can't believe I never thought of doing that! I feel so silly :D Of course those white wings are pretty rare, though.

Do the fit in the holes snugly?

Why not? Some professors in the subject usually mount them. Not much is said about them being mounted but they certainly had a stable... For ponnies to ride in valhalla?

Its a cool lil' fig. Im not a fan of putting winged helmets on valkyries but she looks better than the dull looking-correct ones I made. I used wings like those on one of my knights wearing a viking helm.

I did that too a CCRP character, Vidkjal Frändebane. He should be in the RP planning thread for September.

In popular literature, they are Odin's shieldmaidens that ride winged horses and are the choosers of the slain. In earlier incarnations, they were simply ravens, followed by becoming women riding wolves (both images of the devourers (choosers) of the slain). I will pass on making comment about the professors except to simply state that a requirement to be a Valkyrie was virginity.

As to a minifig Valkyrie - surely I remember someone doing it somewhere before, but this is the first with the new helmet that I have seen. I was holding off while trying to decide if I wanted to make a custom torso that was a little more in keeping with the non-plate era vikings and getting a hairpiece I was willing to grind down and attach to the helmet (I intended to use the gold one with red wings). My shieldmaiden will have a shield, though, and a spear (Odin used a spear, as did his squadron of shieldmaidens).

Anyway, props to Sava for getting the ball rolling on Valkyries!

Yep, it looks pretty good, but I think I like Legofreak's Valkyrie better.... I'm just not digging the way those viking helmets look and sit on the minifig's head.

Hmm... can you please show us a pic? :P

Gasp, I'm lucky. I was about to use a valkyrie on my entry to the Hero-Villain contest. Now I'll try something different.

Hi --

Long time Lurker/CCC participant, first time poster.

Anyway just wanted to say in my Viking Category submission for CCC3 (which can be seen in its entirety here), I had Big Valkyrie Pappa Odin wearing such a helmet (view a close-up here to see the poor fellow impaled on his spear).

I guess I should have probably joined before and called more attention to it, but better late than never!
