Hi all,

Builder Micha has posted his rendition of the Polish castle Marienburg:

Red makes for tough photography, but in this case it's authentic to the original, which was built of brick.

That is simply beautiful. The "LEGO-red" isn´t entirely perfect for castles but it looks good anyway. I really like all the details, he has done a very good job on the different windows.

And it´s also very interesting to see a huge castle in different colours.

Unquestionable amount of devotion and hard work

But may be, just may be, it will look much better if tan bricks is used intead of tomato red

There is something slightly wrong with the scale of this MOC (or maybe that's just me). The red is also a little over-powering... But the grandeur, and work poured into it, more than redeem any failings!

It's really hard to see many details with all that red. The size is good but..the red...seems to much for my taste.

A blend of tan could have helped for sure.

He got the design right. But I feel like he could have varied the colors by using sand red and tan rather than just red. Using red looks like it's just one angry castle.

Very impressive. The scale does seem a bit off and the red is overwhelming but overall it is quite good.

This is an impressive MOC. The overall detail and size are quite impressive. Red is a hard color to photograph and to build in. Kudos to him for managing it. I think sand red would be a good alternative color to red for this castle, tan isn't as true to the original color scheme.

The scale does seem to be a bit off, but that doesn't detract too much from the overall impression. More red brick would solve that problem.

I agree the scale seems to small and red doesn't do much for the eyes. But the design is still excellent. If only Lego released more sand red pieces and maybe a new color, "brick-red"(I don't know if Lego has this color already).

Great work!

I think it's a really great castle. I also think it probably looks even better in reality because details disappear even more on photographs than in reality with all that red.

I once built an (almost as big) red castle

and had the same problem that with that much red it tends to become one big red thing with details rather difficult to see. I think this is at least as big a problem when building in black but less so in lighter colours like grey. My solution then was to use black as a contrast colour both as woodwork and as roofs. This however would not have been true to the original this was built after.

Red can be a fine colour for a castle, Especially when it is build of bricks. But maybe, it is better to mix it with some other colours, like brown, sand red, and a few purple bricks.
It is done in this old Dutch castle, “Kasteel Werkeren” , and well, it looks less err… red.
