Viking Fortress Mods

Post by starhorse »

Hi All,

I'm new here. Just recently got back into Lego thanks to the Vikings line. Now I've got tons of catching up to do considering it's been years since I last bought or worked on medievil lego sets.

I love the new Vikings Fortress, but I felt there were a few modifications I could do to make it a little more my own. I didn't really care for the stationary catapults, so I removed them, and used their bases for some new watch towers. I also added some little details like stair ways, ladders, and weapons stashes. Take a look at my pics of BrickShelf. I hope you enjoy the modifications. Thanks for looking :)

Welcome! It's pretty cool that Vikings brought some more people into LEGO castle, I had actually never considered the possibility, but of course that makes perfect sense!

And what comes after LEGO castle but of course membership in CC? ;-)

One thing, your brickshelf folder is not yet public - if you could post some deep-links to a pic or two, that would be great.
Knight Templar
n. pl. Knights Templars or Knights Templar
1.A member of an order of knights founded about 1118 to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land during the Second Crusade.

Do you have to wait for the folder to be public before anyone else can see it?

*edit - actually that's a dumb question. I guess what I meant is that I didn't realize you had to wait for the folder to be public. I figured it was as soon as you opened the account?

Here they are in a directory on my own server:

I hope that works.

Welcome to CC! The folder is public now. Nice mods there. Your improvements blend right in with the "official" parts, good job. Always glad to have new folks here.

Brickshelf folders take a while to become public. A moderator has to view them before they go public, just in case you are being naughty. If you don't want to wait (it usually takes a couple of hours to a day) you can post deeplinks. Basically, you click on your picture until nothing more happens (until the picture is the only thing on the screen) and you post that link. What a lot of people do is post a couple of deeplinks as teasers and a link to the post-moderated gallery.

Glad to have you here!

Thanks for the welcome and details about Brickshelf Josh. I appreciate it.

Right now I'm still trying to get my bearings when it comes to building my own sets. So, for now, doing some slight mods on various official sets will help get my feet wet. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics.

Heya! Nice work! However, my kids would have left the cats in place! *grin*

Glad to see more folks in Castle! It is the best of course! And your modifications to the Viking Stronghold are perfect, lots of weapons laying about is def the Viking style!

Hmm....

I couldn't notice any difference since I'm not acquanted with the new line of legos. On a scale of one to ten how would you rate this item? I'm condsidering buying it and would like a little bio on its pros and cons.

I'd rate the set about an 8. It's got tons of those lovely log pieces, and for the most part it's set up very nicely. It's got quit a bit of play value I must say. The main difference in my moded version and the official set, is that the areas where I have towers were just catapults. The set comes with two small and very basic catapults on the left and right side walls. The very rear wall has a pretty cool large catapult. I plan on using the larger catapult to create a mobile version for the vikings.
