Tom Bombadil(Updated)

Post by CAI »

Greetings this fine morn'n. Being one of my favorite characters by Tolkien, I wanted to capture this strange character in LEGO (it is uncertain exactly what Tom could be although his appearance is that of a man.)

Tom is a cool character, i'm surprised that I haven't seen a MOC on him yet. I wanted a brown beard, but had to settle with a printed face - can't stray from LEGO.

"Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow,
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.
None has ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master:
His songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster."
- Tolkien -

Only one MOC so far, but I plan to build his house near and in the wood across the Barrow-wights. :D

Cheers.

Oh! This is really great! Not only the tree, the well (inspired design there) and the landscaping, but the character as well!

Nice job on the lower legs, that is a creative way to do this character accurately, when it would have been easier to just slap some legs on that torso... also, that is a great choice of characters to choose - the mysteriously placed (what purpose did he serve in the story?) but very interesting TB never gets enough mention.

That well is awesome. I'd never thought of using that arch arrangement for that use. It looks to be my favourite LEGO well yet.

What a good MOC! I like the well especially, with your use of arches. I like it a lot!

I like it all; the well, the tree, Tom, all very nice. Tom Bombadil is such a fun character (kinda disappointing they left him out of the movie...). I'm really looking forward to your other MOCs for this theme.

Hey,

Awesome scene! I love the yellow boots, especially. I'm definitely going to remember this when I get to that part of the book.

Such a great character! A shame he wasn't included in the movies. He and his wife, Goldberry, could've had some great scenes in Fellowship of the Ring.

This is a cool MOC!

Great MOC of my favorite LOTR character! The legs are really cool...

I was upset when he was taken out of the movies. Though they probably would've messed him up if he was in it...
I really like this moc, the tree, the well, and Tom's boots.
Keep up the good work. :)

I don't have much more to add about the MOC itself -- the well, the tree, the yellow boots -- but I really like your presentation. The white background and the "storybook" font are nice touches. (There are some nice, free LOTR fonts out there on the Web that you might consider using as well.)

I would have gone with a brown Red Bean beard myself, but other than that one artistic divergence, very well done. I'm not a fan of Tom Bombadil (and glad that he got axed from the movie), but it is still good to see stuff specifically from the book.

Now, I might pay money to see a Tim Benzedrine....

Great work! I'm not a huge TB fan but always prefer the book to the movies (I really didn't like them as they strayed further and further.) My faviourite aspect of your MOC is definately the well. Very well done! The composition and display angle of the whole thing is also great!

God Bless,

Good to see more Bombadil fans out there.

I'm trying to perfect him in LEGO...reading his description - I think this hat suits better, although the crown should be pointed like the wizard hat.

If only that wizard hat was grey or brown and had a feather slot...I think I've read somthing about his hat being red...can't remenber though.

There is indeed an official red fedora.
