Light's Hope Monastery

Post by Scnicker »

Good day everyone!

This new MOC comes with a little bit history.

Light's Hope Monastery was built ages ago, when the old kingdom was formed. It was a center of culture, knowledge and enlightment. Many monks and clerics made this place their house and the paladins ensured that the nearby towns were safe and justice was in place. Many ancient books and scrolls were kept in this place, books about both good and evil things, but eventually a war broke out and the Monastery was a really crucial target for the invading army. When the dark army attacked this place, they didn't destroy the building, but forced some individuals to ally with them and massacred the rest who didn't accept this "proposal". After the end of the war, many cults started to form for their own benefits. One of these cults was the Shadow Twilight cult, which basically relied on dark and demonic magic to raid and pillage. The Council of Shadow Twilight assigned the Archmage Azurai to lead the forces that were positioned in the monastery. With the scrolls and books that he found, Azurai gained great wisdom and knowledge and started to summon devilish demons and unleash terrible forces up on the land. Also his chief advisor, the necromancer Naralex aided his superior and helped him in the dark rituals. And finally, Azurai took one of the Champions of the Kingdom, Herod, to his side for protection. In this monastery, Herod trained excellent warriors for the upcoming invasions. Now the name of the Monastery is nothing but an irony to the current situation. Once the hope of the good, now is the servant of evil.

Now enough with the background story and onto the MOC:

General View Of the Monastery:

The wizard with the double sided staff is Azurai. The one beside the ruins is his evil servant Naralex and the death knight near the frozen pond is Herod.

Sweet MOC scnicker! I love the snow effect you've got there, and the frozen pond. The building looks very well built. Does it open up? Have an interior? I like the brown pieces in there, and the roof is very well done.

Most of your smaller greenery is very well done, but I dont like the trees. They look... emaciated. Thin. The trunks are too thin, and the leaves too sparse. Dont be afraid to use green plates in with the lego leaves to add bulk.

Also, on the walkway.... I would have it recessed, not on top of the snow. The snow would be built up around areas that people had been walking. And there might be some brown or green areas in with the snow on the ground. You can make some recessed areas with dirty snow to show where people had walked.

??
Cool, but this:

Is a good tip.

Well thanks guys, now on to the questions:

1-At first, I thought of an interior with broken benches, skulls and candles everywhere, summoning chamber of and so and I even started it a bit, but later on, I realised that I'm not a good interior builder so I just built the monastery without and interior. So it doesn't open up.

2-About the trees; in my Viking Watch Tower MOC, the thing that attracted people's attention were those trees so I just used them. I agree with you on the trunk and I'll think of a way to fix it. Thanks for the heads up Recluce.

3- You guys are right about the path that leads to the Monastery doors. I really didn't think about it. About the dirty snow, I've tried using black pieces and also tan pieces, but it didn't look really good so I just took them off.

Anyways, keep the comments coming.

Here´s a nice MOC... I always like winter creations but as some have pointed out the snow should have been higher than the path and not the other way around but you already know that so I´ll shut up about that...

You got some criticism for the trees but I have to say that I really like them, they were the first things that caught my eye when I saw the MOC.

The figs are cool too - especially Azurai - and the altar looks good though I would probably have used a different colour for the book.

Great job overall, keep it up!
