CCC3 Vehicles and Boats entry:Mosae Fighting Galley

Post by Stone Goblin »

Another entry for "Vehicles and Boats" category:
Mosae Fighting Galley

Mosae is one of my castle realm factions. Enemies to the Lions, they wish to conquer their realm. They live on a seperate land mass, so they will be coming with a lot of these kind of ships to invade the Lions.

Any comments welcomed. :)

P.S. Athos' "Exchange Figure" is the samurai with the grey helmet. He's hanging out with the samurai boyz.

VERY nice! I love the sails, you did a good job an that. You'd think brick-built sails would look crappy, but these ones don't! The deck is a little crowded, though.

Wow, you did a good job on the brick built sails. The design on them sort of looks like a smile.

I can't wait to see the galleries once they're public.

I'll join the chorus and say how much I love those sails. Brilliantly done!

As a whole, I love this ship. The only thing that I would change is eliminating the blue slopes on the side, or at least changing them to a more appropriate color. Still, it doesn't really detract from the model itself, and I'm definitely going to use some of your techniques in the future. Excellent work!

Nice work! It looks a bit like a cross between a Greek galley and a Chinese junk. (Which makes me curious as to what your reference was for this. I have to admit I don't know much about Japanese sea-going vessels prior to the late 19th century. Well, they were kind of isolationist until 1867, so perhaps I don't know much because they didn't build large sea-going vessels. <Scampers off to Google medieval Japanese ships...>)

Looks like the design is the samurai helmet's horn thingie. Very cool indeed.

What a spate of great MOCs in the last few days, Stone Goblin! :D

WOW! Awesome looking ship. I like the whole Pentekonter construction, with a mix of East Asian designs.

A fantastic ship. the sails are great, the use of the blue pyramids are great, no sure what to say... Awesome :D

Mosae does not sound asian, however, and I think a japanese guy would not even be able to say it.

Wow...that is sweet. Love the sails, the details of the sides, basically the whole thing. I think this will do quite well in the contest.

Thanks for the comments. :)
The reason for the design was I wanted to have a ship that had the frontal look of a trireme front ramming bow mixed with Asian style(probably Chinese Junk is what I was thinking of at the time) sails. It is heavily armored but probably not as fast as a trireme.
As a whole, I love this ship. The only thing that I would change is eliminating the blue slopes on the side, or at least changing them to a more appropriate color. Ya, about those blue slopes, I bought a lot of "castle expander packs" which come with the piece. So I wanted to see if I can use these in different ways that work. I agree about the color, I would prefer a different color then blue. It's just I don't have many other colors besides blue. I didn't like the look at first but I've grown to like it. :)

Exactly what it's suppose to be. :)

Well that's interesting. Oh well, I just made it up for my castle realm. Mosae are most of the red samurai figures and the blue ones are either the Blue Dragons clan or Mosae Rebels, which they dispute the Mosae Leader's entitlement to the throne of the clan.

Yep, six entries and I have two more to post. I've been so busy I haven't opened all of my Lego gifts from Christmas. :(

Well back to photographing. :)

This is another that caught my eye. I haven't seen a lot of medieval ship MOC's. Realistic looking shape and the sail has a very flowing look to it. You also did well capturing a close quarters scene.

Sure it does. It would be pronounced "moe-sah-eh", very japanese-sounding. My (small, worthless) dictionary doesn't have an entry for Mosae, but according to Microsoft Word, it could be:
藻さえ - Seaweed
裳さえ - ancient skirt (???)
喪さえ - mourning
I can't remember exactly what the -さえending means, but I think I've proved my point.

I love those sails. If this entry doesn't win the category, I will be extremely disappointed. Everything about this ship says "I am awesome!" You did a fabulous blending of Aisian and Greek ship-building techniques, and for once the high walls actually look appropriate. You even managed to attach a dinghy! The only thing I'm not entirely certain I like is the catapult, but it looks good.

Still, the sails alone make this my favorite ship, ever.
