Carney's Bedzin Castle
Carney's Bedzin Castle
Carney's newest Castle, Bedzin:

I like the overall structure of this Castle.
Of course it would look so much better with some vines on the walls, other plant life, and maybe some banners hanging down from the upper walls or something.

It's huge, and great construction, but it looks like he needs to read the article on the "Big Grey Wall Syndrome". I agree with you that he should use some vines or banners or something. That being said, I really like this and all his other castles.

The walls are fairly bland, but in it's entirety a very good design.
I really like the use of corner wall segments multiple times in each corner, to make a larger corner. The 3D effect it creates between them is cool, and really breaks up what could be another section of BGW syndrome.
The view of the courtyard is neat, but as stated before it could use more plant life, but especially in there.
Does anyone know how he did those three-wide windows (in the main 'building' of the castle? I really like those.
So, overall a really great MOC, and I may take some cues from it! Thanks for posting it.

It does look good, but a little sparse - some small amount of mottling might improve, and vines'd be nice too.
Oh hey, check out the King Casimir's crown. Carney's a customiser!
EDIT: heh, bit of alliteration there.

I really like this one.
Again, its very hard to fault a builder who is as prolific as the good doctor. With over 100 fantastic castles to his name, he continues to be one of the premier AFOL builders out there. And truthfully, I enjoy his 'clean' style. Its refreshingly simple.

It's a good bit of construction. Once again Dr. Carney has skillfully and faithfully recreated a castle of old. A job well done.
I've also noticed that a high percentage of his recent castles have been a bit more life and style - less sticker use, more figs (and some posed figs), and I don't remember ever seeing customized weapons before. Makes you wonder if old Doc Carney isn't a lurker here at CC, taking some of the constructive criticism to heart.
That said I'll agree it would probably benefit from mottling, or foliage like vines. Certainly banners and interior spaces would be great, too. I see stickers used to make windows, and I think those windows could easily have a SNOT solution.
But the castle design more than makes up for the lack of mottling, which is a credit to both the original builders as well as Dr. Carney for recreating it. The juxtaposition of the large, central curved tower amid all the straight walled buildings and walls is very pleasing.
I like it.

I really like the scale recreation of actual castles that Dr. Carney performs. In this current castle, I like the windows behind the King. His use of offset dark grey opening within the light grey wall is nice.
My only critisism is the use of stickers for windows. I know that it is probably impossible to recreate the exact number of window panes at this scale, but I would rather see a SNOT attempt. Just my opinion.
Overall quite nice.

If this addresses the wide, low windows on the south wall, I would also like to see a better picture (or set of pictures).Does anyone know how he did those three-wide windows (in the main 'building' of the castle? I really like those.

Yes! Those windows! Are the stickers official Lego, maybe from a western set? I don't remember any like that. Thanks!

I guess he makes those stickers himself.wunztwice wrote:Yes! Those windows! Are the stickers official Lego, maybe from a western set? I don't remember any like that. Thanks!
I also remember custom tudor stickers on one of his castles, and even stickers to cover the castle wall windows...
Overall, I like his castles, but he's no Lego purist in my opinion.

Ugh, from this picture, it looks like the windows are stickers printed on a b/w printer! From far away they don't look bad though...wunztwice wrote:Yes! Those windows! Are the stickers official Lego, maybe from a western set? I don't remember any like that. Thanks!
