This was already highlighted on Lugnet, but I figured it should be here as well. Takeshi Itou makes what are arguably the most beautiful castle creations on the web. Here are three new ones on Brickshelf:

He is definitly one of the most prolific castle builders on the web. Some of the work he has done is just amazing. His combination of realism and fantasy are very inspired. Thanks for posting these.

When Anthony posted the question about what it means for you when you hear "castle" I didn't know this guys name, but knew his work.... It is such an inspiration. thanks for posting this here.

who said bigger is better? I think detail is more important than size.

His creations are more like art than MOC's. He has wonderful vision in that he sees the vertical as well as the horizontal. It's almost as if he builds a landscape and then thinks, what can I put on on this.
It's really too bad the CCC doesn't really allow for a lot of raised landscaping.

actually you could do a lot of raised landscaping. If you wanted to connect to the ccc just step up gradually. I made a hill on part of my city and the parts of the wall that were up on it were stepped up every two studs.. I tore it down before I got my camera, but I am sure you get the idea..

Oh, I totally agree and plan to do as much as I can. I think the key is to make as much as you can yourself so as not to mess up anybody else's if set up at a show/con. Perhaps even try and plan it with one or two others if setting up a display. Flat is good but some hills and stuff is even better.

I am completely amazed by these creations. They are gorgeous. I don't think anyone can dispute that. The thing that really amazes me is how well they are photographed. you could almost replicate them from the photos because you can see every brick.

i personally have never been a big fan of lego sculptures (i.e., everything you see at a lego theme park or created by lego master builders) and i think these MOCs definitely employ sculpture-style building, but no one can argue that they are captivating. i admire the patience and meticulous planning that has obviously gone into them. i wonder if they are all still together, or if he builds them one by one.

my hat is off to you, Mr. Itou!

I love his work! I have been wondering if he has a gallery somewhere. This stuff belongs in a formal gallery downtown. WOW. BTW wlister, I have been meaning to ask you where you get the head pieces for your dwarves??

The hair pieces for the dwarves have come from many a Hagrid. We are in luck, he is available again in the new Hagrids hut so I can forsee adding a few more Hagrid haired dwarves to my collection. I did buy 4 of the hairpiece from bricklink when I found them for cheap. The hair is not often available though. Hagrid tends to range from $1.75-2.75 depending on the store. For dwarves though only his head and hair are useful. That body piece has yet to find use in my colection.

btw, does anyone know if this gentlemen posts in any of the castle websites out there? I would love to find out if he keeps each model build or tears it down. I would have to guess that he tears them down. but if not, that is quite a collection of pieces!!!!!

There was a post on Lugnet at one time from someone who claimed to know him. He said that the constructions were usually torn down and the parts re-used for the next one. Apparently the guy has a smallish but infinitely useful collection of brick. Of course that post was a few years ago, so my info may be outdated. I would love to hear from him if he ever does decide to become a larger part of the community. If he does take his creations apart, I don't know how he does it. If I made something as fantastic as some of his castles, I would keep them together for a long time; I wouldn't have the heart to tear them down. Amazing work, I wonder if he is an architect of some kind, not everyone has the eye for that level of detail.
