Building the Falcon Fortress
Hey everyone!
I wanted to share some of the WIP shots from Falcon Fortress. This directory contains photographs from the very beginning to present, and more will be added since SG and I shall be improving on this large MOC and shooting at least two new story sessions (which will go up in their own folders later).
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=177303
Since this is an ongoing update process, the folder may become inaccessible from time to time, so please refer to the individual image number and adjust as necessary:

There are a number of techniques based on both original and borrowed ideas... but if you haven't seen them, then they're new to you, and hopefully that's something you can benefit from. Just wanted to get that out of the way, since I prefer the free-flowing of ideas over intellectual protectionism.
This project started around the 20th of last month (March). I was really stumped at first, but luckily I had the luxury of viewing many great building ideas, including photos from a number of members here at Classic Castle. I want to thank everyone who has published their creative ideas on Brickshelf, as it has contributed to the production and my rapid re-education with Lego. I haven't really built anything in years, aside from some small Lego sets.
C+C (comments and critique) is welcome.

Well, let me be the first to say that this is some nice work. Your modular landscape is one of the best I have ever seen. Honestly, castles are a dime a dozen, but a great landscape is something of a rarity. Most of us invest our time and effort into the building, ignoring the surrounding area. I have to say, I really like the amount of landscape you've left surrounding your castle. The muddy banks near the river are also a nice touch.
I'd also like to comment on your seige engines and tents. They look quite imposing. If there's one thing that I would suggest, it would be to move some of your defenders to the wall that the seiging party of skeletons is attacking. The gaurds on the three white towers look utterly confused, while the left wall is almost entirely unmanned. Still, this is a minor nitpick.
As my next Castle is going to be elevated somewhat, seeing your work has been very inspiring. Thanks!
Later.

I'll be the second...this castle and its landscaping is quite incredible. Its a great MOC. The paths, the mud, the imposing castle walls, very good. I also really like how the castle design is not uniform. After awhile symmetrical castles get boring. I have to agree with BlueandWhite regarding your fig placement though. There really should be more troops on the wall facing the skeleton horde. And the defenders would have never left the main gate open during an attack.Blueandwhite wrote:Well, let me be the first to say that this is some nice work. I love this idea of showing how you did it, and it is AWESOME! How did you plan it out? I mean, I can never plan to build anything or build anything like this. Another Question. How did you get the exact bricks you need? I mean, how did you know what to buy or how to find them from your larger collection? I just have a huge pile of legos and I look through it to find whatever I need. I makes it take forever though...
Excellent. UNBELIEVABE!!!

Yes, this is a very nice castle, with the vendors, the landscape, everything! I too look forward to seeing more of this castle. I like the how you made the shoulder armor on the guy in this pic. The Black Falcons seem to be a popular faction right now, what with Dave O'Hare's Citadel and your Fortress, they're building castles all over the place! They'll probably take over the whole planet soon.
Lord Felix, in answer to your question, a lot of people have sorted their collections, for example Jon Palmer. That way they can find pieces quickly and easily.

I would agree whole-heartedly about the landscape, very well implemented! The little details are also great, and things like the well-stocked store room, which add the the realism and general good feel of the MOC as a whole.
I noticed alot of the really cool stuff from this in the battle you posted and I was impressed. I like the black owls atop the roof. The whole thing jsut flows really well together and makes for a true eye-pleaser. Well done!

CooL!
Ah! Very nifty! And indeed, the Falcons are building like crazy these days! I think you and I can take on a faction or two out there!
Very nice angled / curved walls. Def love the fruit stand up there on the top with the canopy! I also rather like the landscaping, I prefer a castle with some hillsides myself!
Keep it up and the Black Falcons shall rule again!

Hi Peppermint Pig,
The landscaping is just awesome! You can tell by the pics that you put a lot of time into the landscaping. Perfect.
The stone path with yellow, white and tan...looked odd at first but it's actually a pretty good combo.
The overall structure is good. Somthing you may consider changing is the white brick surrounding the tips. Seems out of place to me anyway.
Cheers.

This is great!
Like others have said, your landscape is awesome.
I also like the bold use of colors for the interior.
Looks very colorful and alluring.
